Should i buy this dvx100b?

The seller looks safe. I would check the dvxuser forum, and I would check locally on craigslist before purchasing though.

I actually bought that same setup from them just a few weeks ago. I cant complain, it was a good deal, and the dvx is a beautiful thing. Only thing I would watch out for though is the processing time, it took them about two weeks to get the order all ready and then it was next day air. On the site, it seemed, at least to me, to be ready for next day air. But as long as you have a few weeks its a pretty pleasant deal. good luck!

i dont deal with these scammers anymore. i once bought one from ebay. a seller called empire digital. after like 4 weeks of calling and waiting they said they didnt have it. i canceled that order and then went and bought it from these guys digital shopping network and if you dont wanna buy their warranty or extra batteries then they will tell you about a 200 dollar shipping insurance that was not mentioned in the auction anywhere. forget that. i went ahead and bought it on newegg.

i actually just placed an order with their sister company (shopsunshine) for the package with the hardcase and 3 filters. i'm going to call in my payment information on sunday.

some people on this forum get all up in arms about buying gray market dvx's (which this is), but if you evaluate the risks, it's a pretty good deal. they seem to REALLY care about their ratings on resellerratings so use that to your advantage if things go wrong.

the main complaint i've read about them is that they try pretty hard to upsell you. i have to yet to deal with that since i haven't called in yet, but i guess you have to stand firm. i'll keep you guys updated on what's going on.

update: just called in my payment today. shipping insurance is 179 on top of the 69.99. that may seem extreme but i held out on the 4 year warranty and they applied the 179 towards the cost of the warranty. they said it would arrive within 10-14 days which is a bit of a wait, but the csr was pretty friendly even though he did claim the camera only comes with a "starter battery", even though that is completely false.

all in all if you know what you are up against you will be able to make an informed decision, i'll keep you guys posted on how it turns out

Something to also be careful of is a company selling you just the camera without any of the box in parts included. I heard many places just sell the camera for a low price and then they sell the charger, battery and manual for extras.

shopsunshine does too much volume to pull shenanigans like that, but most importantly...DO YOUR HOMEWORK, no matter where you buy from.

I just ordered my dvx package with sunshine, the package with the hard case and 3 filters. That extra shipping insurance is a rip, but the price was still really good. On their ebay page it says they ship UPS ground which which would have been much cheaper to insure ($.80/$100), and I don't like how they get your CC number before telling you all of this, but they seem to be the least shady of these Brooklyn boiler room dealers.

why not go through BH or the other sellers... i'm in Canada and i've spent over 10'gs @ bh in the past 4 years.. never an issue.... and great savings comapred to cnd prices on gear. I woudlnt trust anyone else as i've been had 1 time on ebay and never again.

I'm in Canada and I too was considering buying a DVX off eBay by the end of the summer. I was considering sunshine the most. It seems to be a good deal from a legit seller. In the end, even with shipping and all that, it's about $1k less than buying it locally.

Saturnin: What's BH?

I will 2nd and 3rd that vote that B&H is super legit because I brought from them and have personally went to the store. It's giant buliding in Manhattan New York with sales departments that were more than helpful to me. B&H owners are so commited to their faith, instead of the dollar, that they are closed on Saturdays (the day when consumers have a chance to go out and buy).
Remember: If it sounds too good to be true -it probably is.

Yesterday I got a call from Sunshine to confirm my shipping address and they said that shipping would get me my tracking number. Today I call for the tracking number and they tell me it's 10 to 14 days before they even have the camera and then it gets overnighted. Between that and the extra $150 shipping insurance that was never mentioned on their sales page, I'm a bit frustrated, but it's still cheaper than a lot of places and they offer a good package deal.

B&H is definitely super legit, though I'm a bit frustrated with them as well. I ordered a wireless lav system that's been backordered and haven't gotten any kind of estimate on when I should expect it.

In the past I had made a backorder (Smith Victor Light Kit)which took a few weeks to arrive. Just call from time to time to check on your order, and as they get word, you will know more information. I believe sometimes the wait is due to the manufacturer's not having the item in stock. You could also call them to see how things are going on their end.
Hope this helps.

How does the tax thing at the border work...would love to buy from B&H.

Do we have to pay customs fees? And why do Vistek and Henry's charge so damn much for the DVX 100B

I am concerned about the customs too. I figure the taxes could be in the couple hundred $ range. I ordered a guitar from the states about 1 1/2 years ago for around $100 and the customs was in the neighbourhood of $30 if I'm not mistaken.

So if you figure $100 got a 30% tax rate, a $2600 camera should run us....a lot.

As for Henry's and Vistek: They're specialty shops and already have high prices. But still, a $1000 difference in price is ridiculous. I guess they figure that if you're buying the cam you're a pro and can just write off the cost anyway, so no one will really make a fuss.
