Was just wondering on if anyone skin detail feature . After all if i have a problem with any blemishes on an actors face, i would use a tiffen pro mist or some kind of defusion filter to slightly sofen any slight blemishes.
Does anyone use the feature religeously?

That's what the skin detail feature is supposed to do. But with a pro mist, you end up softening the background too, whereas the skin detail feature is supposed to only affect those areas of the image that it considers "skin".

You need a decent monitor to be able to monitor the changes though. If you're watching through the LCD I wouldn't recommend using skin-detail at all because you can end up softening the details too much.

so what your saying is if there is somthing in the background that that resembles flesh it will soften that as well?

If it thinks that the tonality of that background object would fall in the range of what it considers "skin" then yes, that would also be softened.

One thing that did come to mind though was if you are shooting green screen, would using the skin detail feature affect the image when you want to pull a key?

In the skin detail option, a zebra-like pattern shows up that tells you which area of the image the setting would affect.

I used the sky detail function on a blue screen shoot. Actually smoothed the bluescreen out well, editor was able to pull a great key from it.

To anyone... learn how those little added features work and there are times they really come in handy if you know how to tweak them to your needs.
