I can only load 4 out of 5 clips from one p2 card.

The clip that doesn't load is the very first clip on the card....and it is a total of 10 minutes of 720/24pn footage.

I've never had this problem before. It says that the clip's in and out time is NOT SET and there is a red exclaimation point next to it every time i try to import it. Next to the the name of the clip it says "spanned." what does "spanned" mean?

Why wont it let me load the footage or even preview it? I am doing this through the import p2 footage window. why wont it let me load this one clip but it will let the other ones load!??

what does "spanned" mean and why wont it let me import it!? I was only using one card!

Using final cut 5.1.4

Did the same thing i've been doing for over a year with zero problems.... hooked up my camera through the firewire port...when the icon showed up...i copied all of the files on to my desktop. Did it all over again by copying all of the files as a back up on to an external harddrive (because i had to format the card inorder to go shoot this afternoon. card is now formatted.)

opened up final cut studio....."import panasonic p2".....then...when i bring up the files to import...all of the clips show up except my frst clip....next to the name it says "spanned" and there is no in and out time

i cannot do any camcorder functions like "repair" because it is already formatted. I loaded one copy of the footage onto my hardrive..and another copy onto an external drive.

I did some webserfing and found that some people have had the same problem when ever they record more than 4 minutes of 1080, or 10 minutes of 720 on a single card (without pressing stop on the record button.)

Some webserfing showed that final cut pro has a problem dealing with clips that are "spanned"... meaning that one single clip took up more than 4 gigs inside the 8 gig card...thus having to overlap onto another card (the 8gb p2 card is really two 4gb cards)

HEEELP!!!!!!

spanned means that it is split between the two p2 cards that were in the camera at the time of recording. Both P2 volumes need to be mounted in the P2 import window in final cut 5.1.4 in order for the clip to import properly. I'm assuming you already have them both mounted though otherwise you would get an "incomplete" warning rather than a "spanned" notice.

I fixed the problem! I was up until 3 in the morning...i figured out that it wasn't recognizing one of the clips because it was part of a spanned (more than 4 Gigs of non-stop footage on an 8GB card). I got it to recognize it as part of the footage....and i totally forgot how I did it. Oh well...atleast it worked

I know you said you don't remember how you got it to work but if you remember please share so others who have not encountered this issue yet will know what to do.

thanks,

The repair function on the camera has worked for me as well as the P2 Log Pro software, which has a repair feature. If all else fails, P2 Log Pro can repair the files and turn them into Quicktimes, but I've found this to be very time consuming. But in some cases, it was the only way I found to get the clips to ingest.
