Shortest P2 downloading times

5 cards downloading simultaneously is what I need. I forgot I had seen the P2 Gear at your Balt. clinic. It can power USB external HDD but not FW400/800 HDD, right?

Both USB and Firewire can provide current. Firewire can deliver considerably more (up to 30V DC), but only with 6-pin cables and 6-pin connectors on both ends.

All of the USB drives that are powered by the bus that I am aware of are lower-performance and lower-capacity laptop drives. Firewire can handle desktop-class drives without a problem.

Hi THoff, Just so that no one takes your message to mean that the P2 Gear can power the HDD over 1394, I am responding to say that it will not do this. Yes 1394 in the specification can do power but the P2 Gear is not set up to do this. Frankly the P2 Gear does a number of things on the USB side so nicely I am not sure that I would ever be inspired to use the 1394, the first of these is the Thumbnail view. The second is more partitions, like 23 vs 15. Don't ask me why, I am only the reporter of the facts here and the factory's response has been oblique so, it is the fact and that isn't changing.

We had it hooked up to the new Weibetech http://www.wiebetech.com/products/silversata.php
The Silver Sata II SR is able to be set up for Raid 1 and thus by the the time you are finished you have a second drive ready to go for backup and one ready for the edit suite. Now because of the size of this drive it could not power it but with 23 partitions and 16GB drives we could use the 500GB drive with room left over. My cohort is now looking for an inverter to power it with an Anton Bauer. A comfortable amount of room It also had a impressive transfer speed, we clocked a full 8 GB card cleared in 3.5 minutes with the P2 Gear as the transfer device.

Anyhow, I love the fact that in the data domain, there always seems to be something new that makes the job easier.

Best,

Jan
