"Morten the photographer": dvx/SGPro rev.2

hey Smettli.

The original version is by Counting Crows and yea its from the film Cruel Intentions, that's where i know the song from. i'll have to try and find the version you used, really liked it.

Got it. Thanks! For a moment there I was thinking it had something to do with latitude.

Yeah, not latitude, just meant the almost 100 extra lines of resolution (720x480 for NTSC & 720x576 for PAL).

Thanks for the detailed reply, Smettli!

Any chance you have some before and after stills of your footage? I really like your colors on your edited version I am just curious to see how they compare to the original ones

have a question for you man? actually 2. Which filter in magic bullet did you use to get that greenish look deep contrast look? And how come you dont set your gamme settings to cine gamma, wouldnt it add your pictures film like quality? how did you come to find those were the best settings to use?

SGPro's GG is magic! That bokeh rendition is just like Go35Pro's thicker diffuser but with at least one stop less light loss (from what I have heard at least) just amazing.

Norway is a beautiful country, we just did a road trip there :)

Hello :)

It's important to set the gamma setting to "normal"(on my cam at least), so the the over exposed areas blend nice into the rest. If you use "cine-like" the over exposed areas kinda like cuts from white edges over to color, which looks awful.

I used the "Berlin" preset in magic bullet, but I did adjust the settings within that preset, can't remeber exactly what, varied fro mthe light condisions from shot to shot. I will get som grabs comparising before and after CC stills, I am just too spanked on alcho right now.

Just curious! I was testing the different gammas last night and noticed what you're saying. The Cinelike does make the highlights too sharp around the edges. However, it seems like the over exposed areas are pretty much diffused the same in Normal and Cinelike-V. Cinelike-D also diffuses them but there's just too much noise in the shaded areas. I'm wondering if there's another reason why you're not using those other ones? It looks like the Cinelike-V oversaturates the colors a bit more. Just trying to understand your preference in comparison to these other options. Thanks for any insight!

As always.. great work smettli.. I love the cyan'ish look you got..

Though I have to ask.. Could you get the same result by doing image adjust in Adobe Premiere? With levels, brightness & contrast or color balance.. ?
Or, how would you do it in Premiere?

Alt du lager er jo helt sykt nice.. digga bildet hvor han karen går fremover i den tunellen. :) keep it up.. jeg sparer ennå til min egen dvx, gleder meg.. da skal jeg ha sgpro:P

Timur: I know, I tested it on my friends dvx-100a. The reason I don't is because I have the original dvx-100 and don't have the luxury of that option :) I only have "low, high, normal, and cinelike" in the gamma features.

Tommetass: I do believe you could get the same results by just adjusting within premiere, it just takes more time, and you ahve to start from scratch. With the magic bullet presets you just look for the one preset closest to the look you want and then adjust from that point. And they are very handy since all of the adjustment bars are under the same "video effect".

And good choice saving up for the dvx/sgpro combo, one hell of a set-up for the price :)

amazing.. :P

Yeah, though I really want a hvx200..
I also have to ask then.. where did you buy your sgpro? In norway?

I bought the sgpro form wayne at www.sgpro.co.uk, so shipped from jolly england.

You can use EOS lenses ( I have a EOS mount for my sgpro), but I wouldnt recommend it since you cant control your aperture, it stays at wide open. Which kinda sucks since most lenses produce a lot softer image at the widest aperture and the DOF often becomes too shallow. Stick with fully manual lenses like nikons or the canon FD, or in my case, pentax-k.

I feel like I'm nagging:S but could you be more specific with the names of lenses that you feel would be a good purchase together with the sgpro?.. keep in mind that my bugdet ain't that high.. :P
