How to shoot a Boxing event with the A1...

I'm going to be taping a boxing/mma fight card for my gym next week and was wondering what I should keep in mind. The ring will be lit with halogen lights overhead and I will mostly be ringside. There will be two other cameras. I was wondering how to get the best possible image and audio. I will be using an A1-XH camera with the infamous Oktava mic for sound (no mixer). Should I use auto focus since the action will be so fast paced? Any ideas where I should have the boom stand (close/far)? Anything else I should keep in mind? Thanks!

I have shot some stuff for MMA.TV and other orgs. The key is anticipating the action and getting a feel for the pace of the right. If you have multiple cameras I would stay wider until the fighters lock up and then move on closer. It all depends on how much coverage you have. I like to get in closer for the submission and to give the editor something to work with later. But I would stick with Auto focus unless you are extremely confident in your skills. Good luck.

Any ideas for shutter speeds? I was watching the Cotto-Judah fight the other day and noticed it seemed like it was shot at a high shutter speed, giving it the illusion of speed.

try 1/250 or 1/500 depending on much light you have, if 1/500 looks to dark, just bring it down to 1/250 and it should look good
