Boat clip

Here is a clip of some boats that I took at Magic Island in Hawaii. I was using Cinemode and 24p and used the 24p workflow with VirtualDubMod and Avisynth that has been posted here. Also this is from the 1st tape that I ever filmed so there are still a lot of things to improve. Hopefully you'll find the clip enjoyable :beer:The file size is 55MB.

I'd like to look at the clip, but 30 minutes to download?

Go over to hv20.com and check out the free clip hosting they have there for HV20 footage.

OK - I watched it.
Some nice footage in there - I like the tripod shot of the boat crossing.

The first shot had some odd banding/wavyness on the waves. Was that a product of compressing it down to 55MB, or was it there in the higher res clips, too?

Thanks for viewing but I'm not sure what you meant. Could you show me the screenshot? There is some wavyness on the side of the boat but I don't see any thing on the waves. By the way, does this wavyness come from the rolling shutter limitation or because I didn't do a good job on the pulldown removal?

OK,

I took a screenshot, but you can't really tell unless it's a sequence. Plus, I'm not able to post it for some reason.
The very first shot you have - note the boat in the middle, how a weird rippling goes across the side. The waves have a similar effect going - kind of like looking at a road on a very hot day.
I went frame-by-frame and it doesn't seem to be a pulldown problem.
Probably a shutter issue. Or it could simply be that the compression you used when exporting this movie did it.
If your footage looks OK played on the camera or out to a TV from the camera, it's something you did in post. Otherwise, you may want to do a couple tests to see if it's a camera problem.

Now I think it's the compression problem. I don't see the rippling in the higher res version of the clip. Thanks for pointing out though.

Aloha,

Ala Wai Marina?

My wife and I just bought the HV-20 and are heading out to Oahu soon for a friend's wedding. Can't wait!

Yes it is. You made a right decision buying the HV20 because Hawaii is one of the best places to test it :)

No wonder it looks familiar. You must have been to Hawaii a lot since you got all the names spelled correctly
