So nobody complaines about mpeg2 editing??
How is rendering I'm not talking about a footage of 2min imagine you will make a documantaire about 50min.
Tell something about this subject and your experience please.

Tell also something about your confugration and the editing software.

Thanks all !!

it's an intraframe intermediate codec that makes editing easier. Available as a plug-in for various NLE

I personally find that with a mid-range computer, editing HDV is almost like DV. It's the rendering that takes quite a while. Something like 50 minutes of footage would probably take more than a day. And it's hard to do VFX with it since it's so CPU intensive.

A few more words: HDV, ProRes and FCP 6. For relatively simple edits, native HDV editing is fairly snappy on a G5 or better Mac. If you want the equivalent of CineForm on FCP 6, you can convert and edit in high quality ProRes 4:2:2. The beta version of CineForm for FCP is also available.

Would this not a expensive story camera+cinemaform(for easy editing)+firestore HD (to not use the camera as VCR) etc.
Why not go direct buy the HVX200 dvcpro editing easy editing format

Basically, none of the stuff listed here are "must have.". You don't need Cineform. I don't have it and I've been editing HDV natively just fine. You don't need the Firestore either. When it comes down to it, being able to shoot HD on $10 tape is the main draw of the camera; even if I have a Firestore, I'll still be buying tapes to use as backup in case of hard drive failure.

There some of us that prefer the A1 image.

I just wanted to say that Cineform causes a HUGE drop in quality with XHA1 footage, That was my observation with the demo version, perhaps the compression is better with the licensed version, but i am not willing to take that chance.

The native M2T's from the A1 look like photos on my computer monitor when paused, but when i converted the files to cineform there was visible aliasing and softness, and the colors were much more subdued.

Just my 2c

P.S. with a Core 2 speed computer, editing mpeg's is no problem!

I have also found that editing mpeg on Premiere Pro 2.0 (I also have a Core 2 processor and 2gigs ram) is fine, but the rendering time is a killer. I suppose I will just have to render overnight and come back to it in the morning. Also, if you have to then create an SD version, then you are spending even more time rendering in addition to the HD version.

I shoot wedding videos, which when finally edited can be anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours in running time. I cringe thinking about the rendering time on a 2 hour one.

Does anyone know if their render times dramatically decreased when they added Cineform to the mix? Also, how do the render times on Final Cut compare, assuming you are using a capable Powermac?

I am really interested in Cineform (either NEO or Aspect HD), but what is keeping me from buying just yet is that the Blackmagic Intensity card cannot play the timeline out using Cineform presets. I may have to get the Intensity because I can't get my nvidia FX560 card to play the timeline out to an external monitor.

I have a Quad Core (OC'D) and it handles HDV very easily in Vegas 7. Upgrade to the Quad and dont look back. I think investing the extra cash into hardware upgrade makes more sense to me, but to each their own.

Unfortunately Vegas only uses 1 core in timeline editing. If I'm wrong tell me otherwise.

And one of my cores OC'd handles the HDV timeline easily. The other Quad Core rips through the rendering part fairly quickly as well. :)

Um...you are converting the files back out of Cineform to another format when you render...right?
