Little League Highlights - Caution, big file

Lucky Duck
So here is an 8-minute piece I did for my son's end of season party. It's about 90% Letus Flip Enhanced and the rest is with the stock lens. Every shot in this piece is handheld, grip and rip style. I lucked out mostly on focus but some shots are slightly off but I had to include them because of what they recorded. The first part of this is deliberately made to look like the opening of a major motion picture...I figured the kids would get a thrill out of it.

Party is friday night so the team hasn't seen it yet :)

The compression is pretty high but it still looks good to me. I didn't want to break it into smaller pieces because it is meant to be watched all the way through.

It's a 720p size and the file is about 300mb

As usual... Great job... There seemed to be some fairly substantial lighting differences from shot to shot... Was that because of the adapter sucking the light or just overcast to bright day? Just curious... Really looks nice man... It could be like something from a movie like the sandlot or something... Great rack focus too...

Thanks for the comments. The drastic light change is as a result of all the shots being from completely different games and different times of the day. Some shots were seriously overcast while others were in full sunlight and many of them are juxtaposed.

Fantastic job Steven! The kids will love it I'm sure. I really like the contrasty look of your finished products. I know when you used the DVX you had a special process you went through to upconvert. Did you do anything special in post to this one? To me the look is so much better than when you post examples or tests. I guess I'm curious what you are doing these days to get from that to this.

Thanks Ed. No special process with this one. The contrasty look is as a result of making some subtle levels adjustments ensuring blacks are rich and crushing them in some shots. Other than that, there is very little post work here.

Great Work

Great Work

As usual regardless with what tools you are using, you are always able to produce some great filmatic moments. Keep up the great work.

What can i say, for my taste, i think some of the shots were too long, more fast pase cuts would have been better IMHO, as well as more CC, maybe some flashing between the cuts?
just before the first song ended i started to loose focus, so it was smart to change to song and the pase, cool. Overall another great looking video from you friend, i believe you`ll make kids very happy, good job :)

wow, that was awsome.

man, how many lenses did you bring with you? What were they?

Thanks for the comments.

I mainly shot using a Nikon 100mm f2.8. That lens helped a lot to blur out the metal fence I was shooting through. For the medium shots I used a 50mm f1.8 and some of the long shots were with a 28mm f2.8

Beautiful work as always Steve.
How do you find working with the Letus? Is it easy to mount and remove?

Excellent work as always. It's uncanny how close your footage resembles 35mm film. I'm getting all my stuff within the week. I'm currently awaiting the Letus. I hope to get footage that looks close to that. Thanks for the posts.

Beautiful work as always Steve.
How do you find working with the Letus? Is it easy to mount and remove?

Yes it is very easy to mount and remove. It takes about 30 seconds to get it up and running and about the same to remove it. It adds weight to the camera but it's still manageable. I can definitely feel the strain on my arm after a full game but I have tried to pace myself and take many breaks. So far, that's worked for me.

Thanks so much for taking the time for all of your comments.

I loved that although I saw just about minute of it :D

Just watched the first minute with my 14 old sister and when the playback stopped after a minute, she said "hey don't stop it, I want to watch this movie..." So, you have obviously achieved a cinematic feeling. Gongratulations and keep up the good work.

Must download the rest of it now :D
