"Refill" - by hybridtheory, xpac84, and happygobo

here's my opinion-

There's a great car shot in the beginning. I really liked the dialogue, pretty witty and engaging. The cinematography in this one is very smart and professional. I'm also very jealous of your sniper rifle. Execution, Acting, Effects, anything that starts with a vowel you pretty much nailed as well.

So there's my 5 sentence review, I hope you took away alot from it, and know that I plan to steal your squib setup in the near future. Thanks!

oh justin, you're so dramatic. He was actually at the Starbucks and had to ask for a second squirt of whipped cream on his Grande Decaf Mocha Chocalate Part-Skim Latte. When they said no, Justin paid to get one. True story!

And after only a month a half someone gives a 5-star thread rating. YES!!!

You make fun, but I have a terrible secret. It was I who rated the thread! BWAHAHAHA!

Well, if you can't feel good about yourself, who can you feel good about?

zach and kyser,

Really appreciate the kind words, lots of blood, sweat, and ... (ok, you got me, i cried) went into the making of this. And nothing says felony like bringing a real sniper rifle into a hotel room. he he he. :)

i have no idea what you just said mike.

I was drunk sorry....

You make this kick ass shot.. then you watch it on your 22 inch monitor and your like OO crap A spot........

I'll try to type better next time....

I thought the dialogue was pretty witty and the acting was decent. The scopes for the guns looked fantastic. And the car shot really makes me want to get a car rig. Some good effects thrown in there as well. Only problem was that I didn't understand why he blew up the assassin and then why he was killed. Maybe I just missed it?

I tried not to get into too much back story and confuse things, but here's the short of it.

Tyler is the crazy guy with the hawaiian shirts, he hires hitmen.

Rob thinks he being hired to kill the guy who Tyler wants dead.

In reality, Jon and Tyler set up Rob up because he's actually the target. Yes, it's a big elaborate plan and they could have just shot him, but then the story wouldn't be half as fun. In a nutshell, Jon fakes his own death and then blows up the hotel Rob is in, I mean, what else are assassins supposed to do for fun?

OMG they say my movies confusing... /jk

you best be kidding petro, you could be next. lol.

The main thing that I wanted to put across with this one, is that the details don't really matter, this is Jon and Tyler's oppourtunity to f*ck with a noob assassin who thinks he knows what he's doing.

I found this movie very entertaining. I loved the concept of the film and the look of the whole thing. I especially enjoyed the sniper rifle, the scope shots and the reaction shot of Jon being shot....great work there.

A couple of things I felt detracted from the overall impact of the film.
The dialogue was a little wonky....Tyler doesn't really sell the fact that he would say some of the things he says....some of the cussing came across a little forced.
Okay...I don't even believe I noticed this and it bothered me, but I did.....Rob's ties. Striped tie in the beginning and then he wears the olive green tie for the rest of the flick.....felt a little weird to me. I know he must have more than one tie, but it felt like he just went right into the job from the coffee shop. Also, when he is on the roof with the camera, his tie is all whomperjawed and then when he stands up and walks away it's ok.
Lastly.....is he drinking scotch before he shoots the guy? I didn't get it. LOVED the shot through the glass with scotch in it, but didn't seem to fit the idea.

Hootzie, appreciate all your feedback, I'm really glad you found it entertaining.

Here's some more explanation to perhaps tie up some loose ends for you.

The ties ... along with the timelapses sort of symbolize a passing of time. So it's not like they meet for breakfast, he gets killed at lunch and then tyler meets john in the afternoon. Three ties ... three different days. get it? And if you want to further dive into the character with me, it's "his thing", he's black pants, white shirt all the time, the only thing that changes is his tie, black and blue for the metting, green for investigation, and of course, red for killing days.

It sucks that you thought the dialogue was wonky, I know a lot of people liked it, it's hard to immediately establish character, so when I watch these, I give the filmmaker the benefit of the doubt that that character is who he is, and don't have to have too much explanation about where they came from or who they are. Did you believe it was poor casting? What kind of person would swear about coffee and speak in metaphors?

And he is drinking something before he shoots Jon, What it is? Who cares. What he is drinking isnt important, but that he's being methodical and taking his time setting up for the shot. I could have purposely placed a recognizable liquid there to say a lot of things - water - he's all business, hard liquor - he's a drunk or he's calming some nerves - wine - he's a classy assassin, who knows. I chose to make it an ambiguous liquid cause it doesn't play a part in grand scheme of things.

Thanks again for watching!

Standard Disclaimer: I've yet to see a bad film so far in this fest. Congratulations to every film maker, everyone did a great job. All my comments and criticisms are meant to be constructive and helpful and in no way am I trying to take anything away from what you accomplished.

Good: Good story, another plot twist I didn't see coming. That sniper rifle looked super real. Really liked the gun shot. Liked how the guy could never get a refill.

Not as Good: Some of the shots didn't seem that necessary (timelapses, etc.). Didn't really buy that the guy would shoot someone in the restaurant and just walk off without anyone noticing.

thanks chris f,

i think this will be like the 7th time I said it now that it was a real gun. We are just crazy and brought it to the 19th floor of a hotel. he he he.

Again, I feel the timelapses, not only looked cool, but showed that this didn't happen all in one day.

I'm glad our story was engaging for you, we're constantly trying to work towards an apex of good technical filmmaking and storytelling.

:dankk2: for watching and commenting

Fun flick, guys. Tyler was awesome. I just sat there looking at him and couldn't help but come up with a backstory for him: He's an ex-Microsoft techie who retired a multi-billionaire and now hires hitmen to take out those who annoy him. He just seemed so dorky and socially awkward, yet had an air of entitlement and was quite comfortable in his Hawaiian shirts - err, skin. Top notch camera work and great locations just added to an original story. Nice job.

very fun. i was actually bummed when the main guy died because he was pretty cool. explosion vfx were a tad weak but im noone to speak because i cant do better. sniper rifle was awesome. i liked how the annoying guy got shot at the end, under the table like han solo did greedo in the cantina. cool!

AmyO, I'm glad our character inspired you, you pretty much nailed the character with your backstory, lol.

Defcon, thanks for the critique on the vfx, that shot went through a lot of different looks before i settled with that, it's going to take a lot of meticulous work to make it better, work that would have taken up time to polish off the rest of the film, and made my eyes bulge out of my head. And our scene was a little Han-esque ... hmm ... shows we all have a little star wars in us.

Thanks a bunch for watching and commenting.

I suppose it was a casting issue, though I loved his performance. I don't think the dialogue was very refined perhaps.
The ties thing bugged me but I suppose I see your point.
It does matter what he was drinking because it tells us a lot about the character and I didn't know why he would be drinking hard liquor before a sniper shot.

Cool hootzie, I see where you are going with the drink thing, but I'm saying it's an unindentifiable drink because it means nothing, it, in fact, marks the passage of time by being less and less full instead of saying something about the character.

Thanks for thinking in-depth about this stuff. Appreciate the view and comments!
