NEW XH-A1 with GREASE ON THE INNER LENSE

Has anyone else had this problem?

I recently purchased a xh-a1 about a month ago- (took a month to get stock into New Zealand) and when I recieved it, I filmed a two day project.

When I got the footage onto the computer I noticed a visible blurry smudge on the top right hand side of all my footage (most noticable on bright blue sky).

NOTE: This camera was brand new and this was the first time it had every been in the field filming.

I took the cam back to Protel (local dealer) and showed them the footage. They sent it back to Canon who opened it up and found grease on the inner lense.

SO NOW I AM WAITING 2 MONTHS FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE LENSE (not the entire camera, which is what I would expect, due to shocking quality control or what ever they do) AND THE JOB I SHOT WITH IT HAS CRAP IN THE TOP LEFT OF ALL THE SHOTS.

Is this what you would expect after paying $6900 for a brand new HD camera? I am just glad it was not a large job.

Luckily the great team at Protel have lent me their in store Xh-a1 until mine is fixed.

:(like the camera but not happy.

I can see why youre not happy but relatively speaking its the first time Ive heard of this issue.

Not sure if it helps, but my DVX came new with some grease inside the lens, though it didn't affect picture. I'm not sure how QC lets these kinds of things pass unnoticed...

Shall I whack up some footage? It looks like dust on one of the ccds. But its more, solid.
