Vahe:)

Man, Dan really knows how to make a well put together video. He knows his adapter well.
What can you tell us about this one? budget? light kit? how many cameras?
How long to shoot?
what sort of support was used for the band shots? they didn't look handheld and had great movement.

I emailed dan about an internship a while ago and he just stopped answering. :/

wow, that looked really good. I love the lighting. Can you tell us some more about the lighting setup? And basically everything Matty asks :)

Very well done, congratulations!

Wow. Beautiful. There were a few cuts that were pretty rapid fire when it came to the story elements, but that is really nit-picking.

Answers to the above questions please!

HEY GUYS, Dan is the MAN. I just worked on his new video, it looks AWESOME. lets just all the kinos had mustard and ketchup on em after the food fight. the grips and electrics were pissed. thank god for my portabrace hood and some trashbags. otherwise my camera would be needing a cleaning by now.

What scene do you want to know the lighting for, there were just too many setups to list them all. They had 10ks, 5ks, 2ks, 1ks, some molipso style lights, kinos, flicker boxes and many other items. The 360 degree dolly was my favorite. a lot of tricky focus pulls, espiecelly when a lot was shot on a 135 wide open. thats when even an actors head bob needs to be pulled. No marks were set, just went purely off monitor.

There should be a new video up that I shot, check out his site for more updates.

Un-be-lievable.

Some of those edits...man...one in particular when the lead singer bobs his head fast, then it's slowed down, and then sped back up. A lot of the editing really made for an emotional impact with the story (which was ok, but towards the end with the back and forth cuts between the two kids was VERY nice).

So much kudos to the editor and his contribution.

Same for the DP. Wonderful stuff.

What was the exact camera set up? HVX/Pro35?

Everyone involved with this video should be very proud. Great job.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said...great video! Man, I remember seeing Haste The Day play at this little church with Bowels of Judas here in Modesto 4 or 5 years ago...there were like 20 people at that show. Then a year or so later, I see their album at Best Buy!!! anyways...

yes that i can do, scene file was set at cine V gama, the saturated scenes were shot with a chroma level of 0 and saturation was done in post, the desaturated scenes were shot at -4, master ped was kept at a -8 or -10 depending on the scene, and detail level was kept at a +4 due to the adapter, shutter was kept at a constant 180, everything else was kept at 0. hope that helps.

fyi, dobi is very good at color correcting so he always ****s with the footage.

budget was around a 20k.

how many cameras was the shoot?
and 20k. that's a really high budget for the type of music they play.
Were you mostly a cameraman on this shoot?

THE VERY FIRST SHOT is beautiful!

So many pretty shots...

For the first shot in the dark, what type of lighting setup did you use?

wow, everyone is very nice on this thread ... suprised there's no haters ! hah.

FYI: Kelly Gallamore was the DP. She friggin' rocks socks. Dan Dobi (who is ... me) directed/edited it.

Anymore quetions, keep postin! Thanks for the comments!

Hey Dan, great work. Pretty much par for the course for you, I gotta admit. But I'm gonna have to stick with the Bleeding Through vid as my favorite...those dolly zooms were sick.

Dan,

I'd assume you used final cut to edit this? If so how long did it take to edit?
About how many p2 cards did you use, and don't tell me you used a firestore...

Good job overall

Yup! FCP all the way ... Ahh, Maybe 2-3 days to have a final cut, and then maybe a half a day to color it? that's just a guess though. When i'm editing/coloring i kind of just zone out and just do it, hah.

p2 cards? I think we had 4 on set? 2 4gigs and 2 8gigs ... there's never been a situation where I've run out of card space. As long as you have 2 of the same cards (ex. 2 4gigs, 2 8gigs) you should be in good shape. and no, i didn't use a firestore, i always perfer to use the cards ... just seems more reliable.

thanks! :)
