The Office Spoof - First thing I Filmed with my DVX

Oh and by the way, could someone shed some light on the scene file settings? I really don't know what half of them do. It seems like there is random noise every where sometimes. I know the miniDV codec is noisy yeah but this is like I have the gain on or something but I dont.

Hey man. Not half bad for the first time out of the box.
First, what scene setting were you using? I'm curious.

Second, well done. The camera work wasn't half bad and it stuck to the style of the show for the most part. Maybe a little bit too many snap zooms, but your fairly limited to what you can do to copy it without having lots of characters and large open spaces to whip pan and rack focus like they do in the show.
It was fairly funny, with a few parts you might have thought were funny that didn't translate across, but that's all the process of writing eh? Your young actor's weren't half bad either. Oh, a few shots the lead is turned away from the camera for almost too long, audience might yawn at the back of his head for too long, you could maybe have dollied out a bit circling him to reveal his face as he yells, etc. The final reveal of what's in the box was very unsurprising. Maybe you could've had him struggle with it a bit more opening the box, then zoomed in to his face as he struggles and mutters under his breath to get the crap off whatever is in his hands, then he finally holds it up, into frame, for the audience to see what all that effort was for. Just an example.

I understand you probably have limitations (cast wise for sure) and time, so good shi* man and keep it coming.

Thanks. Yea acting skills need a bit of work I know. F6 ws my scene file but I've screwed with some settings in there so. Could anyone give me just a very breif explanation of what some of the settings do, and whats best to have them at.

Hey Matt,

Nice work, I like your framing. Only criticism: scene cuts are a bit rough (scene changes).

I love the look, your shooting style reminds me of old 8mm home movies.

Good work!!

Very nice first outing, Matt! The shots looked good; nice colors and exposure. It actually made me chuckle a bit too. That's always a plus!

F5 is the most commonly used one. It's set at 24P and has the most film look.
F6 is not 24P and turns out looking more like video. When editing, 24P (F5) comes in at 23.97 frames per second, where as F6 is 29.97 frames per second. Experiment by looking at something on your screen with a lot of colour, and try switching between the scene files to check out the difference.

Also, get your hands on Barry's DVX book and DVD, they will help you tons in finding what you want.

Feel free to add me on MSN, I like chatting about this stuff.

Yes I know but I've changed almost all my scene files to 24pA because thats the only thing I need. I want to edit in 23.976.
