The switch will be to a 16GB card. If you have all of your paperwork in, you will get a letter from me. If you have not recieve the letter by say the end of next week, and you registered your camera before March 31st, then I would say there is probalbly something amiss and you need to call the rebate center to find out.

We are hoping that all claims will be filled before the end of June.

Best,

Jan

Thanks Barry.

The firmware downloaded and upgraded the HVX successfully.

Interesting find: in the "other functions" menu item at the bottom under "user file", the last item is "Operations" which shows 5 numbers followed by an "H".

Your book and DVD don't mention that item and maybe I've got a bad memory, but I don't recall seeing that until after the firmware upgrade.

Is that new?

It's new, yes, it's the hours of operation meter.

Another new feature (at least for version 2.3 and above) is the Type 2 metadata option for the user clip name. This can be a very cool, very handy feature if you take advantage of it. Look at my writeup in the Articles section on P2 filenames to see how nifty it can be. :)

I'm looking in the Articles pages 75/76 in the HVX book...describing the naming system for the P2 clips. Is this where the hours of operation will come into play?

What I'm thinking is that if you buy a used HVX, you now can see exactly "how much" used. Like the odometer on a car.

Barry,

I loaded and tried out the scene files included with The HVX Book. They are very good examples.

However, I can't seem to get the original Gamma settings back. When I spin the Scene File wheel, it shows the last scene file read from the SD card.

Under "Other Functions" menu, I tried the "initial" button and power cycle. I still have the last scene file from the SD card.

Any suggestions as to how I can get the original camera settings back?

Did you SAVE the scene file in question after you restored it to its default using the INITIAL option? Any settings you don't save are lost when you power down.

Did not use the "save" function on any of the scene files from the SD card...only "read" in the "Card Function" menu.

But the last one read is still used by the Scene File wheel. The original scene file gammas included with the camera don't seem to be accessible any longer in memory, so I've performed the "init" functions in both the "Scene file" menu and the "Other Funcitons" menu. Still, the last scene file used from the SD card is loaded.

Also tried power cord disconnect after power down to restart.

So if those moves are supposed to reset the camera to the original settings, I wonder if the next step is to push the magic reset button.

Common confusion here, but easily solved.

When you make a change to the scene files, if you don't actively save those changes, they'll disappear when you power down the camera.

When you load from the SD card, it automatically saves those files into internal camera memory.

When you did the INIT function, it doesn't save to internal camera memory. So when you power down and back up, it re-loads the last saved state (which was from the SD card).

So do the INIT, and then save that to internal camera memory, and you'll be back to the factory original scene file. You'd have to do that once for each position on the scene file dial, so a total of six times.

so does this prioritize us above pre orders for reciving the 16gb cards? oh i just got my book and letter today, the book is very exciting (great job barry) just makes me envious of people with cards though lol

I submitted the rebate online but I remember there might have been something to mail in. What documentation do they need? UPC?

A copy of the invoice with date and price, and a copy or printout of the confirmation with number when you register online.
