Any Further News On 16 GB Shipping Dates?

My understanding was mid May.

However, I wasn't aware that Panasonic is favoring new HPX500 users over existing HVX200 users with the availability of 16 Gb cards.

Anybody got the skinny on when these cards are actually shipping to the US?

I talked to EVS yesterday and they said 2-3 weeks for the first shipment (all reserved) - then the next shipment of ones will be another 2-3 weeks after that... I also called samys and they said the end of summer for just the cards themselves (because of the preordered ones being taken and the others for the HPX)

...What a headache this whole thing is...

Dont forget that you can still do plenty of work with the 8 gig cards. buy em now, sell em later. or rent them out, and make a buck or two back on the purchase price.

Those seem hard to find right now. Pretty much only ebay seems to have a couple at a time, mostly used ones.

I'm just wondering what the HPX500 purchasers are being prioritized.

Why not divide between HVX200 preorders and the HPX500 preorders evenly?

But then again, I don't own the company. :)

Probably cuz the HPX500 cost more money (more money for panasonic) and it takes more cards, and it's brand new, which means more sales. That's the way I see it at least. But ya, it sucks, HVX200's are available but tracking down a P2 card is like trying to find Waldo, but way harder....

I have a feeling panasonic is making sure their broadcaster/high end user is getting the full package before the HVX200 user. Not that i blame them. How would it look if they sold 1000 HPX500's.... and only had enough p2 cards for 500 of them. it would be embarassing on their part.

Not true. At least when you're looking for Waldo, as hard as it may be, he IS there on that page somewhere. ;) (Unlike the 16s.)

Ha, ha, very true.
Waldo > P2 cards

gave them all away?

gave them all away?

well, not to me they didn't! Been waiting since the middle of November! Not a book, no letter yet... nothing. i bought this camera (w/2 8gig cards) before I needed my sweater last year, and now I'm looking for my sunscreen before I get my free card. From my purchase last year. What a world...

Love the HVX. Would have been pleased w/just the camera, retail. Still a great camera, just ticked at how this all panned out. (sorry for the poor pun...)

wow, you been waiting since november? that's a real problem, if I were you i'd contact someone at panasonic or at ACB or whatever that rebate company is called.

Yeah they arent THAT far behind - I'd get ahold of them ASAP. I ordered at the first of Jan and received my card and book in March (i think)

Losing Faith?

Losing Faith?

Maybe now those new FS-100's with the v.3.0 firmware don't look like such an unreasonable option. I'm trying one out this week, and if it works as well as some of the proponents say, I'll be reading these "Where's my card?" posts with a bit less compassion. Just hate being in that boat of having a beautiful camera with no HD media to shoot with!

Ya I hear ya, but the cards are awesome! (comparted to an attachable harddrive) Too bad you can't find one. Try ebay, I recently saw a few there.

Just not willing to dole out that kind of cash on media that will be obsolete in a matter of months (supposedly!). I mean it's hard to fathom shelling out $500-$600 bucks on an 8GB p2 card when 16GB cards are on the way and 32GB cards are around the corner. What irks me is the feeling of being low on the Panasonic prioritylist (broadcasters first, then more expensive p2 cameras.....THEN HVX200 users. With no concrete timetable! I'm sure the p2 cards are great. No one could be cheering louder for Hoodman to come up with a competing card. Perhaps that would make distribution move a little quicker on Panny's end?

You could get a 8gb P2 card now and sell it later. There still will be a shortage of P2 cards for a while, I believe. Also come people like the current 8gb's because you can burn a dual layer dvd copy of them.
This coming batch of cards, won't even be available to the public, and not all pre orders will be filled.

Everyone is dying to see what Hoodman has to offer, except there seems to not have been even a peep out of them since NAB. I get the feeling that their H2 cards are never coming out.
