XHA1 upgrade question

Hi all,

I am about to buy a NTSC XHA1 in the U.S. I want to upgrade it to the 50i/25f option. As I am from PAL land.

I called the Canon serivce center in N.J (732) 521-7007. I was told by a customer on the phone that I can actually buy the upgrade option throught the phone at 1800-8284040. The upgrade can be downloaded throught the net. You don't have to actually send the camera in to the service center. The customer service personal said that it would cost U.S$599 to have it done.

Can anyone verify this?

Thank you in advance.

i think thats how it works. its a firmware update.

i WISH thy would do that for the HVX....

it sounds as though they've boasted the price -- I'd earlier been told it'd be $500 (if its just a firmware thing, it seems kinda steep)

thats not steep. that saves you from having to buy anoother 3,000$ camera. i'd pay 500 to be ablle to shoot for Pal land. this way i can get work overseas too!

When I asked the Canon reps at the video trade show where I was introduced to the XHA1 for how much to do the PAL upgrade, I was told $500.

And unlike most things that can be gotten cheaper because they're available from a variety of sources, this PAL firmware only seems to come from Canon.

There are a lot of international broadcasters based here in DC, so I've thought about doing the upgrade.

Has anyone here done or know someone who has done, the upgrade ??

How good can NTSC original converted to PAL, be ?? (either with a good NLE or with a PAL standards converter ??)
(foriegn broadcasters here routinely convert the NTSC stuff they aquire to PAL -- but I have no way of evaluating what it looks like on the PAL receiving end)

Would the dual standard PAL upgraded Canon produce a MUCH better result ???
