Anyone seen this?
Polaroid 15.4" LCD HDTV (1511-TLXB)

I saw it at circuit city for $239- Looked to have a pretty sharp picture, and res of 1280x800 with component and HDMI inputs.. Couldnt help myself and picked one up... I won't have time to check it out for a couple days, but might make a decent (and very cheap) field monitor

Yes it's new.. I was in circuit city for something else and just happen to see it.. My circuit city just got them in today.. Pretty random cuz I haven't stepped foot in the place in months.. Plus it's on sale this week, until sunday... They said reg price is $299-

I'll hopefully get a chance to play with it tomorrow...

I've only had about 5 minutes to play with this.. But I'm not sure you can go wrong for $240- The resolution looks pretty good... Focus is crystal clear in the brights, a little noisey in the darks, but I'd wager it blows everything else away anywhere near it's price... It's pretty compact, and feels solid.. I would encourage anyone looking for a cheap solution to check it out.. Especially since the sale at CC ends Sunday... you can always take it back... But I'll be keeping mine...

Current price at Circuit City is actually $199 now. If they try to charge you $239 just tell them to go to their own website and check the price. Now you have even less to lose! Although you may have to ask someone who works there to get it for you. At the store I went to, a physical unit was displayed, but no price or information was posted. I guesss they want you to buy something more expensive!

Hi guys,

Thanks Joe for the find ! I got mine at CC today for $ 199. Haven't connected my HVX to it yet, but here is the problem, and I'm wondering if it is a normal thing on this display or perhaps I've bought a lemon:

The LCD seems to be UN-Evenly lit: When the screen is dark you can see a whiteish ghost image spreading from the upper left corner of the screen and going diagonally to the lower right corner of the screen. It is really annoying to look at because it overlays fog-like the image beneath it.

Is there a way of fixing the problem, or like I said before, the LCD may be damaged. I know you cannot expect anything spectacular for this price range, but watching it as it is now, is simply unacceptable. My laptop's LCD looks WAY better than the Polaroid display.

I wonder if your sets have the same problem.

Much obliged for your reply.

Best, Robert

Honestly I've been busy on projects that didn't really let me play with this thing yet.. I check it out for about 5 minutes.. I didn't notice any ghosted image.. That would be definitely unacceptable, your screen or cables are likely messed up.. Please post if you find a solution...

> We have one. Color isn't the best, and it appears cheap.
Well it is cheap.. :) But appears cheap? For a non commercial piece of equipment I think it's solidly built...

Color.. Look at the cost of what your likely comparing it too... Personally the main point of this monitor for me was something to focus with.. I'm happy enough with the color. I'm not using the thing in post... I'd like to hear more about what monitors your comparing it to, if it be the Marshall 8" or Panasonic 17" or something else...

Tx..

Joe

I know it's cheap, but it "appears" to be cheaply made as well. The plastic stand is pretty flimsy.

If you want to use it for focus, it seems decent.

I'm not comparing it to a Marshall. It's just my impression of it after using it for about 60 minutes.

I don't think this is going to be useful for us, but if others find it useful that's great. Price point is good, but viewing angles are poor, and the screen is not very bright at least in my view.

I picked up the "Element 15.4" LCD HDTV (FLX-1510)" at my local Circuit City because they didn't have the Polaroid. The specs, AFAIK, are exactly the same. I also took a look at both manuals and they are nearly identical, which leads me to believe that they were manufactured at the same place and just re-branded.

Here are links to specs and manuals:
http://www.elementelectronics.com/pages/products/flx_1510.asp

The picture is a little dim and there's more noise than I'd prefer, but for composition it's just fine and for focus it's usable (not great but not horrible either). Additionally, color seems okay and the price isn't too shabby at $180.

Actually we have the Element and the salesperson said that BB thought Polaroid made it

And I concur with synapse's observations.

For those who own the Polaroid 15.4" model....

Does it have a QAM tuner? The manual makes no mention of it, nor does Circuit City. As I understand it, this lets you get unscrambled digital channels from your cable company without any box (often hiding in the 70.1, 70.2 range, etc.)

Incidentally, the picture at my CC was SENSATIONAL, yet, the Element version (made by same company) right next to it had a washed out picture.

Thanks,

Edgar

I am getting a lot of channels in the 70s and 80s listed like 83-2 83-4 83-5 so if that means it has QAM tuner i guess it does... it's odd they wouldn't mention it..

Joe...

Really weird because I called Polaroid yesterday, and they said NONE of the LCD TVs had a QAM tuner!
