Just got off the phone to the Panasonic Rebate phone line.

First, let me say the rebate process could be a lot more customer friendly. A lot. But I finally got a human today and they told me the new rebate P2s cards were going out in two weeks.

Now this kinda ticks me off. When I was making my purchasing decision, the then stated $1400 value of the rebate factored into the cost/benifit. But it is taking them so long to ship the cards that the actual value when I recieve mine will be considerably less. I don't know about your State but in mine that's skirting consumer fraud action by the AG.

So I was greatly encouraged by what the support person said next. Apparently, they have been told that 16gb cards will be shipped instead of the 8gb. Lets hope thats true. $900 isn't $1400 but it sure looks more like a good faith effort to me. Course now 2 16gb cards, well.....I'd never buy Sony again!

P2 forever!

Nice. But they aren't going to have another p2 card rebate are they? (did they mention that too maybe?)

New rebate? Nope.

New rebate? Nope.

Nothing was mentioned about a new rebate with P2 cards. But there is a current one for a battery I think.

I hope this is true! A 16gb card would really make the amount of time spent waiting worthwhile.

When did you submit your rebate? And, did they say this was for everyone who hasn't gotten their P2 rebate yet?

Thanks for the heads up!

You will receive a letter that will come with your HVX Book announcing this plan. Now we are still waiting for 384 people that have not completed the paperwork submittal. So think about it, did you send in a copy of your invoice? If not, dig out that piece of paer you printed after you filled out the on line form and send in your paperwork. All of the folks that have completed this process should get their book and a letter from me in the next couple of weeks.

Please note that the first 16 GB P2 cards do not show up until the end of May.

Hope that helps,

Jan

I purchased an HVX approximately two weeks ago, and saw nothing about a P2 card rebate. Did I miss something, or was it a limited time offer that expired prior to my purchase?

Yes this was a US offer that ended on March 31st.

Best,

jan

Actually we did lower the price of thr DVX and now the only thing we offer with the DVX is the online registration for the Book and software.

Actually I do think overall the ACB on the sheer volume of what they do, do a good job. You have no idea of the volume that they handle. There are good stories about rebates and some of them are here. The DVX rebate has been pretty good for the most part until just lately. Yes there have been people that did not get there check in a timely fashion but there has also been the guy that threw his check away because it came from ACB and not Panasonic. This has happend a good 100 times. So this means stop payments on checks and the rest of the story.

I know it is human nature to think that your experience is everyone's experience. But from here I know that your experience is not the norm, or there would be a stack of letters that I would never get through. The volume on a monthly basis is huge, considering the HVX and the DVX.

And BTW, the reason that I do this is because I am hoping that by offering something that cannot be had without it being a US product, that the gray market product doesn't have as much of a chance. Gray is the worst part of the industry, people theink they are getting a good deal until they have a problem.

So anyhow, I think that it is a difficult task that ACB has to accomplish and while they are not totally perfect, they do help a lot of customers.

Best,

Jan

As for David S. I too have issues not receiving rebates, DVX and HVX, not the rebate itself. Yes ACB is undoubtedly very busy, no dought about that. And I'm sorry to hear about all the people who throw there checks away and the ones that can not follow instructions. SORRY. "I know it is human nature to think that your experience is everyone's experience." Wrong. I'm not asking for special treatment or help such as replacing a check I trashed. Just what was advertised. A REPLY to the Emails (AS IN MULTIPLE EMAIL) at very least.

But more specifically and to the point. Why can't they answer the phone? Return calls? Reply to Emails? Do they need more help? Really, busy is no excuse for poor performance! Lots of busy people here as well, producing quality products. And if there is an issue with even one. It is dealt with in a very timely manner. NO EXCEPTIONS. I still answer the phone and reply to Emails myself if everyone else is busy. NO, I am not perfect, so don't argue with me about it. Not asking for perfection, it takes second to reply to an Email, even if your slow like me. I manage a couple hundred a day. If this is mean or hurts anybody's feelings, again sorry.

But this is way off the point. Back to my last post, lets hear some good rebate stories, please.

Jan,

Thanks very much for taking the time to update us and give us information, I appreciate it.

Are you taking over for Veronica Burks or are you just the Panasonic side of things and Veronica is the rebate company side of things?

I'm looking forward to getting the book and your letter soon.

Thanks again!

I have to say and I've said before that the whole rebate process should be eliminated or regulated by the feds or state government.

I'm not talking specifically about Panasonic, because I don't have any experience with this rebate.

But to me at least, it is an unacceptable way to do business.

Cut the price, but don't make a bunch of rules that depend on the person providing the rebate to decide you followed.

I absolutely hate rebates.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the update.

I'm a little concerned about the issue you mentioned of 384 people apparently not having turned in their paperwork. When I called the rebate phone number a few weeks ago, the representive claimed that they hadn't received my invoice. Four weeks before that, I did indeed fax a copy of my Spec-Com invoice along with a printout of the "Request Complete" web page (the page that lists my request number). And I had been monitoriing the Web page that listed the status of my rebate, which had been reporting that my rebate was "In Process."

I believe some other posters here have also complained about the rebate team claiming not to have received an invoice copy weeks after an invoice copy was submitted. How do we know for sure that they haven't "unreceived" it yet again? Have the 384 people on that list been notified that their paperwork is incomplete?

Jan:

Thanks for communicating with the users and updating us on the program. I do have a comment about the program and would appreciate a reply. I am new to the digital camera world and planned on purchasing Barry's book as part of the learning process with my new camera. I
was very excited to learn that Panasonic would be sending me the book as well as a battery and some software for purchasing from an authorized dealer.

After filling out the online rebate form, I got a printout to fax along with my receipt. The printout indicated that "Once the information has been received, processed and approved, the Special Offer will be mailed in approximately 9 to 12 weeks." Is this true??? Could it take more than a quarter of a year to get this information and product that will help me get started with my new camera?

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate what Panasonic is doing and a free offer is nothing to complain about. My comment is an observation and recommendation that future offers should not include learning materials if the time to process the orders will knowingly take so long. Perhaps providing kits only to authorized dealers would be more effective - for consumers as well as for authorized dealers who want to stand out from other retailers.

I waited 5 months (20 weeks or so) for my card, and only recently (a couple weeks ago) recieved it, after the price drop was announced - do I fit into these plans or should I shut up and be happy with my 8 gig baby? (and I am!)

I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THAT IT'S ABSOLUTLEY OUTRAGIOUS TO CHARGE $1300 FOR A CARD AND THEN TURN AROUND MONTHS LATER AND GIVE IT AWAY FREE.

THAT'S REAL MONEY FOR ME, NOT MONOPOLY MONEY, YOU COULD HAVE MADE THE CARDS ALOT CHEAPER. I READ A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS AS TO WHY THE CARDS COST SO MUCH AND TO SEE THAT YOU'RE GIVING THEM AWAY FREE BC OF SOME BS GREY MARKET BLOCKING PLOY, IT INFURIATES ME.... THAT YOU GUYS MADE A HUGE HUGE HUGE PROFIT OFF THOSE CARDS. yes, i'm yelling. bring this message to your boss Jan, it's total BS... those cards should have been way cheaper to start with...

AND NOW YOU'RE GIVING AWAY $900 16 GIG CARDS, HOW MUCH WOULD THEY REALLY COST IF YOU WEREN'T GIVING THEM AWAY?

ENOUGH WITH THE SHENANIGANS.
