Need immediate help re Firestore & HVX

Stephen, yes I tried local recording numerous times.

Okay, another pathetic stab at pointing out the ridiculously obvious... there are of course two ports on the FS-100, one for connecting to the camera and the other for connecting to the computer. You plugged the camera cable into one port, and disconnected that cable and plugged the computer cable in the other port, yes?

I have no doubt you've taken all these steps; it's just that as a computer programmer I've encountered many situations where the most complex issue was solved by remedying the silliest mistake, so I'm just trying to throw anything into the mix here that might help...

Barry, I completely understand, and you're absolutely right. Nothing is too obvious.

Yes, I did differentiate the two f/w ports, using the one labeled DV something or other for the camera and the one labeled "computer" for the computer.

After seeing the creation of the folder and the attempted creation of an mxf file while putting the FS into record mode via local controls, I'm fairly convinced that something is wrong with the 1394 communication, namely there is none. The FS is not seeing the camera and the camera isn't seeing the FS.

The reason this unit is available to me to test is that the local distributor took it back from a customer that had a heart attack a few days after he bought it and had to drop plans for a project. It was like new, of course, but both the FS and the camera had been opened and at least tested by this buyer. I don't know if he could have screwed up the f/w port on one of the pieces or something like that. As I examine the ports with a flashlight, they look okay to me. But if it's not a damaged port, I'm ready to conclude that one or both of these units has a defective firewire interface.

I hate to throw in the towel, but I'm tired of dealing with it. And if the very bright, knowledgable, and helpful folks here can't find a reason for it, I give up. I'll check the thread tomorrow morning just in case someone has a eureka moment. But I've wasted enough of you guys' time.

Thanks again to everyone who took time to read, test, answer, and make suggestions. Much appreciated, even if it was for nought.

As I mentioned earlier your problems are probably with your timecode settings (or if the 1394 port is broken). please post your settings for the entire Setup menu in the fs100. as you scroll down you will see there are many settings of importance in there. for instance if the fs100 is waiting for TC, but the hvx isn't sending then it won't record anything. i can't remember the settings off the top, but will look when you post.

I didn't even know there were settings below the 4 visible. No indication of multiple pages on the FS LCD.

Anyhow, here are the complete options that were selected in setup during the final tests yesterday:

SETUP
(appropriate date and time set)
V 2.0.3
-LCDLIGHT ON
-ALARM ON
-STOP NO VIDEO
-EXT CTL OFF (a false alarm of hope, since this deals only with
RS-232 control according to the manual)
-TC REGEN
-TC NON DROP

After reading your last post, I made sure to match TC format between camera and FS, both TC NON-DROP. I also changed the TC REGEN setting to every other available setting (TC FREE RUN, TC REC RUN, TC EXT), testing recording after each change, and still could not get the FS to record.

I greatly appreciate your suggestions, but I just think this thing is screwed up.

I personally haven't used the Fs 100 but i am on a set right now where there are problems downloading stuff. My issue though is with my new P2 store (AJ-pcs060G). see i dump the cards in but i can't read it from my Avid or any other NLE. I can view it in the P2 viewer. I need help ASAP>

I have the exact same problem, the only way I can record using my FS-100 is if i hit the record button the FS-100 unit myself. I've been following this forum trying to see if a solution presented itself. Perhaps it's time to call FS tech support.

I tried thousands of recording combination. Please help.Anyone has any idead about this problem. My all projects are waiting at the moment for this thricky problem???

Connect the HVX to your computer and see if it recognizes it -- if it doesn't, the Firewire port on the camera may be fried.

yes i alos tried it but thats the thing makes me scared.Cause it doesnt recognizes or sounds like ''New hardware found'' on windows.Tomorrow i'll bring both camera and fs-100 to panasonic service. But my problem i bought the equipment from san francisco .And the technical service in Turkey unfortunatelly doesnt want to interest.Because the warranty is from U.S.Tomorrow is a big day.Hope it just a small trickky fault, not a hardware firewire problem:(

The local service center will repair the camera if you bought it in the US, they just won't cover it under warranty, so you will have to pay for it out of your own pocket.

Thats exactlly happened like what you say.I bring my camera and they said it probably from the output card of 1394,cause they tested infront of my eyes, and camera does not give out any 1394 signal.I still don't know how much it will cost.Butt he interesting thing is the guy here in technical service said that;he saw few more problems like this on hvx models.!!!

Hi, this is my 1 post here so i want to say hello to everybody :)

I decided to ask my question here,
I just gought the FS100 and i have no problem with recording on it, but i cannot screen my recordings on TV. I try to use component cable and standard video cable.
FS sending signal to HVX, picture's screening on the lcd, but the signal doesn't go to the TV.
First - is that option possible?
Second - what do I do wrong :)
If the signal doesn't go from my cam to the TV, probably the problem is in my camera settings. I try diferent options but it doesn't help...
Any ideas now to solve the problem???

Ooops :[
Pretty weird for me. I can watch recording from P2 and DV tapes but FS signal is blocked? Maybe some firmware upgrade can help?
