Duel-Systems Adapter has been officially released

FedEx just pulled up with it... Installing later but will only try to run on XP under BootCamp since I'm at 10.4.9 on my MBP. I would imagine we should see a 10.4.9 driver soon.

That are going out of their way to point out that they have no delivery timeframe...

Hmm, they moved the switch , and it says DUEL on it now. Cool.

I assume you mean the a-B switch under the cardbus connector? What function does it serve... I know it has to be on A for a Mac...?

A for Mac
B for XP

They should not have released this, and their support is terrible.

Ive found it to be the exact opposite actually, they have been extremly great to me in all my issues, beta testing or not.

Gotta imagine they are busy.

I'm sure they are swamped with calls as many have been waiting for this and I applaud them with coming up with a solution. The first time I called, the support person did their best running through everything I tried 10 times already. However, I shouldn't have to wait 2 days for a call back when tech support said they will "get right back to me". It's a new product that will have it's share of bugs, I just have a feeling they have no XP solution yet. Only other option for Windows users is to purchase a Toshiba that has duel pcmcia and express card slots. I have the Dell XPS1710 laptop and 3 HP laptops running, so thats not a viable solution for me.

Granted you have every reason to feel the way you do, it is your life and all that , but just seems getting a bit to worked up over a 120 dollar adapter. Try even getting someone to pick up the phone at most companies.

We dont even offer phone support where i work, because it is really expensive to do so. Especially with customers who just plain dont get that in the end its about running a profitable business. Spending countless hours on tech support calls cost ALOT of money. Some customers have gotten through to me personally and if i dont have a solution for them, how do i get them off the phone happily. I can do it 90% of the time, but it takes my time, and time is money.

What im saying is, they have a 30 day money back garuntee on the product, so they arent trying to ship a product that doesnt work, if they did they wouldnt offer that. its about making money in the end, and they wont make money if people return it because it doesnt work. give them some time.

I just installed the new Vista drivers on Duel System's website for the Duel Adapter. It works perfectly with P2, P2 viewer read the clips and everything.

Hopefully today they will also release new OS X drivers :(

10.4.9 works on my MacBookPro. Those of you who gave up after getting the "cannot be installed" dialog (see pics) while running OS X 10.4.9 take a look at the second pic.

I can't guarantee this works for everyone but I have the drivers if anyone wants or needs them for system 10.4.9. I've moved them in and out of the system manually. Booted up in the system DuelAdapter works fine, out of the system DuelAdapter doesn't work. They are not large but are too big to upload to the forum. If anyone else has a space I can upload them to... Those of you in contact with Duel Systems might want to drop them a note as well?

I could really use the 10.4.9 drivers.

Try sending to nsoltz1 at tx.rr.com

I just got an email from Jan. She says that Duel says that with the driver loaded in 10.4.9 that it works. Problem is, when I insert my disk, it won't let me install the driver... I get an error message saying that this is only for 10.4.8.

Has anyone gotten the driver to install from the CD/DVD provided?

Mitch, I did not say anything about what Duel said. I did not quote Duel at all. I said that Art who was one of our consultants at NAB and in Anchoage-Nome was using 10.4.9. I also mentioned that he was a Beta Tester and that he was having no problems. It may well be that those folks that were on 10.4.8 and then upgraded to .9 actually have no problems, but those coming directly from 10.4.9 do.

This has been pointed out to folks that can do something about it so I do believe this will be cleared up rather quickly so just a little patience, please.

Best regards,

Jan

I can't wait for Panasonic to have a downloadable P2/MXF viewer for the Mac...like the one they download for the PC.
Or is there one and I'm just ditzy?

Ok...before you say I'm ditzy for not just using the FCP import feature...I'd like something to allow a quick view of the mxf's before I ingest...and likely on a Mac that does not have FCP installed. Also, the P2 Viewer on the PC can display playback full screen.

Just tried that file and MacBook Pro kernel panics as soon as I insert Duel. Will now try to install under XP on Bootcamp.

Got it working on XP on BootCamp. Seems I had a problem with installation of P2 driver (I didn't pay careful attention to dialog box and just installed HVX rather than HVX as well as P2).

Works like a charm now including access to the Windows P2 viewer.

So, I can live without a 10.4.9 version.

Only complaint that I have is the whole ExpressCard issue. PC cards had a great locking mechanism. These spring loaded cards are as worthless as Sony's 4-pin firewire connector.
