When I import my footage from the A1 to FCP my audio and video is way off! They don't line up at all. They match on the playback on the camera but not in FCP. I shot in 24f and I think that all of my setting were corrrect. Any Ideas?? :undecided

Hi Shinobi. You think your settings were correct, but nobody else knows what they were. Can you provide more details?

Shinobi, best advice I can give you is post this up in the forum for the NLE you are using.

Ya, I don't have accurate stats to give here, but in my testing over the weekend I was a bit disappointed that you need 5.1.x to use native 24F material in FCP.

I played around with other capture settings and got some to work for the video but the audio was also off by more than a few seconds. ALSO, it doesn't play at the proper speed if you watch it carefully.

Anyhow, get yourself the 5.1 update disc from apple. The MOST you'll have to pay is $16. Call Apple and they will dial you in.

And therein lies the problem. Apple has officially ended the offer for the crossgrade disc, but it's the only way (bar paying $1299 all over again) to upgrade 5.0.x to 5.1. Those of us who didn't need the crossgrade at the time of the offer (no intel machines, no HDV cam) are now forced to sit on our hands with footage uncapturable by FCP, or upgrade to FCS 2.

It's somewhat understandable that Apple wants $$ for the upgrading of FCP from PPC to Intel. I can only imagine how much coding work they had to do to optimize it in a universal binary. But the fact that our 24f capture codec is glued to that disc and only that disc is quite frustrating. There's really no reason Apple couldn't release a 5.0.5 update that included the 24f codec, rather than requiring we pay for extra software we don't need. Other than corporate motivations, of course.

Forgive me, I'm just angry I can't capture the footage from my new A1.

End rant.

WOE, settle down and check it out. The crossgrade program is NOT over.

You simply need to call apple. If all you need is the FCP disc it's $16 - and you "may" be able to work it out for free.

I called on Monday and literally received the disc 3 minutes ago via fed ex from Austin Texas to my studio here in Newport.

Kidding, wrong, misinformed, not quite sure but you can call Apple and ask for the disc / discs. I just ordred the FCP disc and they gave it to me for free.

They didn't even ask for a serial but another number that was right next to it on the "installing" booklet. Customer service code or something like that... and that was it.

Just to throw this in, for anyone experiencing an off-sync issue with the newest version of FCP. Also be sure your system has enough ram.

When i first captured with my A1 i found the audio to be really out of sync. Turns out it was because my powerbook only had 512 ram. It has always been fast enough for editing and capturing SD, but when I made the jump to HD the PBook needed more. Now I have an extra gig of ram, and everything edits and captures like a warm knife slicing through butter.
