Metal Gear Solid PHILANTHROPY - Italian independent movie on MGS

wow! were the explosions and gun shots hitting the ground all effects? i am quite impressed, as i thought this was going to probably be terrible. i would take out the shots of the actual MGS game though and the ending song didn't seem to feel right. i also wish snake didn't have such baggy pants around his ass lol. Props though! Snake looked and even moved like the real solid snake. what was your budget on this?

Wow, I am surprised that the project is still alive. There was quite a roar about it when the old trailer surfaced on Gamefaqs many years ago but the project just went silent after that.

I have to admit, the current one is a big improvement compared to the previous one. What you have now is a really nice location, decent costumes, and props.

However you need a better DP than the current one. As of now, there is an overbundance of handheld work, long takes, bad composition, and lack of dramatic lighting.

More angles, better composition, and lighting will bring this project to an even higher level.

Hideo Kojima is quite the filmmaker (or rather videogamemaker) himself and it is only right to do justice to his creation even though this is a fan movie.

Keep up the good work.

I thought it was CG at the beginning; still can't get over how much that guy looks like Snake (and kinda like Jean Reno too).

The shooting style, colors, and lighting felt very true to the games for me. It's been a while since I played any but the overexposed sky felt right. I liked the wide shots too, none of that Batman Begins crap where they hide the lack of choreography with ECUs. However it does need more shots, much tighter editing, and more concise storytelling. And you have to show Snake shooting!

Where is that location in the opening shot? I swear I've seen it before in something but at night and full of more garbage.

Thank you to everyone!

Game's shots are a director's choose, for making people who gamed various MGS' able to recognize characters implyed in that "i'm still paying my debt to someone", otherwise, with no perfect costumes, this woudn't be possible...

0! All fans of the saga working for free to this project in spare time...

This trailer was planned for caught MGS fans' attention. They saw Hideo Kojima's trailers for every new game; slow and narrative, not like typical Hollywood style with 150 images of all movie in a minute. (But I know that in 2 parts it's too slow...). Snake will shoot a lot in the entire movie!!!

I know, I'm the actual DOP... Shootings for trailer was planned in december, with only 3 hours of "good" light in a day. We shooted it in 3 of those days in 3 separated weekends, so the coninuity was very hard to control. Because of the 0 budget we hadn't any lights, but now we got a electric power generator to turn the lights on every time we need!

It's an abandoned aluminium factory 2 miles from Venice (oh, sweet Venice, for who never seen it in it's industrial zone....). The first building you can see is half mile long, everything you see out of windows is CG.

Thank you to everyone for feedback. Sorry for my maccheroni-english....

Great job on the trailer, and the CG was really really cool. Thats a kickass location you have there, and i really liked the shooting!

what was this shot with a dvx or hvx, also, any accessories like anamorphic or 35mm??

Hi, we used an HVX200E (DV) for half of the shootings, for the remainings we used a DVX100BE. The dialogue scene was shooted with DVX100BE+WDR35 (an Italian 35mm adapter).

DVX100 you can see in this gallery is mine.
We blurred HVX200 footage to get similar blur like WDR one.

Wow! More than 160.000 views only on youtube version!
For ending of 2007 will be available the first part of the movie (we decided to split it in 3 chapters to avoid a decrease in fans' interest for long waiting times)...

Starting at about 1:40 time mark, boost the dialogue a little louder, not too much or you can lower the music just a bit. The music is cutting your dialogue.

Otherwise, good all around. Willing to see the final.
