i'm a firm believer in supporting many of the sponsors of this website. And i always check their prices BEFORE i start shopping around.

BUT as an indie doc maker, I will look for the best deal from an authorized dealer. Onecall.com is running a 2 day promotion of $3050 after the $250 Canon rebate.

Now, I'm not sure if Onecall.com is or isn't an authorized Canon dealer. That should be determined before u reach for the cheaper price. At $3050 after rebate, I'm mighty tempted.

Be well

Rob

beebs-

thanks for posting the resellers link.

seems like onecall.com has a pretty good rating.

i wonder if they are a canon authorized dealer. how is that determined? think canon has a list?

$3k-ish for this camera is a very tempting price.

be well

I've just ordered the HV20 for $889 -- Canon is being very agressive in going after market share

So I called onecall, and the salesperson told me that they are indeed a Canon Authorized Dealer, but I am still looking for verification on Canon's website. Thanks Robfilms.

One caveat however...I noticed there is no battery charger included(CA-920). This will take a big dent out of the $200 savings.

That seems very suspicious to me. If they are an authorized dealer then they're required to give you ALL the original accessories, including the charger. If it's not included that also means the box was opened.

It seems like they just forgot to add the charger on the list. Looking at other cameras like the FX7, everything is correctly listed there

So apparently nobody has a reason why onecall wouldn't be a perfectly good place to buy from?

Does waiting an additional week for NAB still make sense, or should one just take advantage of this price?

Go ahead, and let us know how it works out. :)

WTF? Check your order status? I ordered on Saturday and found out today they have none in stock and none on order?

Very strange.

I just ordered an A1 from Onecall a few hours ago over the phone. Very pleasant experience, no hitches. No aggressive selling of accessories (they politely asked, I politely declined, end of story).

Of course, the A1 was already listed as out of stock on their website, so I knew there'd be a delay, but I wanted to take advantage of the promotion (which ends tonight). And I figure, since I'm not in an incredible hurry, it's probably a plus that they're out of stock; I'll be getting a cam fresh from the factory, with no chance of getting a previously returned one. They're authorizing my cc, but won't charge until the cam is shipped. And I can cancel at any time.

They are indeed an authorized Canon dealer (not just according to them - they're listed on Canon's website too). Furthermore their ratings on resellerratings.com are excellent - some of the highest I've ever seen, actually.

I also asked very clearly about the battery charger not being listed on their website. The rep promised it comes exactly as it would from the factory, even pointing me to the picture on the Canon website (and btw the inventory list on canon.com is *exactly* the same as on onecall). So I'm not worried about this.

So my impression thus far is a very good one, though it is early to say. I'll post again later with more impressions as they come.

Hope this is in some way encouraging.
