Canon XH A1 as low as $1519

Hi all,

I'm from the UK but at the moment on vacation in Florida and will be in New York in two weeks time.

Has anyone bought from Best Price Cameras? (http://www.bestpricecameras.com/prodetails.aspx?prodid=674426). I'm seeing the Canon XH A1 going for $1539, is this some scam? I’ve also googled it and I’m seeing other companies selling at similar prices and up to around the $3000 mark.

Also, what are the implications as far as warranty and buying a US spec camera and using it in the UK and would it be easy to have it converted to PAL?

Thanks in advance,
Koo

The internet is full of ridiculous scam claims. I hear you can also order some herbs that'll grow your penis 3". The prospect of getting an XHA1 for $1539 is about as likely. Research on resellerratings.com.

I am sure Canon could convert the cam to PAL. However, since it's a replacement of the main circuit board assumably, the cost would probably be close to 50% of the original cam price. Buy PAL in PAL-land is the best solution.....or check B&H Photo Video, they often have PAL cameras for sale in the USA, although they will sell for close to (or at) full MSRP.

You can get the camera factory modified so that it can shoot not only 24F, 30F, 60i, but 25F, and 50i on the same camera as well. I do not know the price Canon is charging for the mod.

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-Unveils-New-Prosumer-HDV-Line-XH-G1-and-XH-A1.htm

"The XH G1 and XH A1 feature three 1/3-inch CCD sensors, each a native 16:9 with a resolution of 1440 x 1080. HDV footage is recorded in 1080i. While the camcorder does not offer a true 24p frame rate, it features the same 24 fields per second shooting mode found on the XL H1. In the past, Canon has stated that it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between 24p and 24f once it is brought into an NLE. These frame rates are available for either 2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pull-down. Other scan rates include 30f and 60i (for standard definition recording). Canon is also offering an optional upgrade on both models to equip them with 50i/60i scan rates for PAL."

What this says to me, is somewhere in the camera's software is the capability to do these frame rates already, and that the mod really doesn't involve putting in any new hardware at all. Hackers - where are you?!?

The PAL upgrade just enables the software in the cam to reboot and record to 50hz standards, much like the Z1U or HD100 do it. It just adds 25F and 50i to the menu. In the U.S. it's a $500 upgrade, but there's no way that internet deal is legit.

I wonder what else lies in there already, or could be part of a software update....

It's a scam. They're probably just selling the A1 body for 1500. Fricken punks..
