Hey guys. Long time I have posted anything on here. I recently finished shooting a short film called "Rewind." It's a parody to the film "Click." This one really tested my composition abilities and lighting. Actually sound too. everything! Haha, check it out and let me know what you think.

This is going to be viewed at an arena with approx. 8,000 to 10,000 teenagers. It's gonna be crazy.

Click here to watch it. (approx. 30 MB)

Its great to see people shooting things with a purpose!! Acting and pacing was good, might want to play around with the focus of the background and forground footage when that guy goes to throw that punch, foreground footage seemed a little to clean at moments.. I also noticed when the guy in red walks behind the guy eating breakfast at the table you can see some slight pixellation possibly from the edge of the matte used, might just be a case of adjusting the threshhold just a tad to shave part of that shaodw off from his arm.. All in all Great work, keep it up!!

Cheers

Shorty was a good actor, I really enjoyed his acting. Over all, the editing, VFX, and pacing of the film was very well done. Although I'm not a Christian, the short was nice and the message you were trying to convey needs to get to more teenagers. It kind of reminded me of the Christian based film "Facing the Giants" which was also shot digital.

However, in today’s world, making a short or a feature with such out right-I don't like to use the word- but most people will use it to describe such films - propaganda, will not give you the range of audience that your film deserves, and it doesn't do justification to the intelligence of your audience. Kids are much smarter today and you don't have to hit them over the head with your message in order for them to get. When you try to get a message a cross to teenagers, which in today's world, mostly live in MTV main stream and rebel against anything that is preachy. What you need to do, is introduce your message in a less preachy way. What comes to mind is the redemption theme in most of Martin Scorsese films. He doesn't outright say in his dialogues that every man can redeem himself by following the lord, but he does get the message effectively across by action or imagery, not dialogue. A better example would be Jesus who used many parables (verbal imagery) to preach his message!

I enjoyed it, nicely done!

The lighting in the dining room was casting some pretty nasty shadows on the wall behind the talent. I understand this was probobly a no budget video but its good to look out for little things like that.

Overall, very cool short and I liked the Christopher walken character alot :) Also, the message was really good too. Keep up the good work!

Yes, Shorty is an awesome actor. I'm suprised that he isn't doing bigger things. He actually does theatre. He looked at the camera a couple of times, I tried to cut out those times, but you can see him do it sometimes. He's in college for acting and he's awesome at impersonating people. I can say he can be the next Robin williams. haha.

About the message, the people from the convention told me to make a 4 minute video to talk about Representing Christ. So, I had to put the message out in the open. He gave me a month to do it so yes, it was a hard task. It actually went over 4 minutes. It's about 5 minutes. This video will be viewed in a convention, so videos like this are good...it's quick, it's entertaining, and the message is quick and to the point. I enjoyed it. But I understand your viewpoint. Jesus did talk in parables and that's one of the best ways to reach the people because that's how he taught. I'm sure if Jesus was living today, he probably would be a film maker.

About the lighting, yes, it was majorly low budget. We didn't spend one cent on this film. Lighting is not my strong point and we didn't have much time. I wish I had someone that knew how to light shots, I tried my best though. But thanks for the tip man. If you have any tips on how to light better, please let me know.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Keep on coming. You can compliment me or give me suggestions for next time. Thanks a lot!

Besides the rather icky propaganda of the subject matter, the technical things that were problematic were the sound mix - esp in the dining room, and as others have said, the lighting in that same scene was WAY harsh. it might have worked if there was a more distinct choice there, but as it is, it just looks like you blasted an open face light at them.

i did blast an open face light...lol.. i didn't know where to put the back light without making it show. lol. do you mind telling me what esp stands for and how i can prevent it.

Just one quick flaw i noticed when i replayed this to show my brother today which im sure your aware of when editing.. When the guy goes to throw the punch and the scene slows down the guy in grey's top is unzipped, and then when the camera zooms in on the 'same' shot' its miraculously zipped up again lol, either that remote has some extra features that werent in the movie or God really does work his miracles in mysterious ways.. hehe

Cheers

Haha! Green Ranger! That was a pretty funny post. Lol! Yeh, I saw that. Thanks for that. It's so hard to direct and act at the same time. I don't like doing it. I rather just direct but hey, it was fun making it. Lol! Thanks anyway. God bless!

P.S. God really does work his miracles in mysterious ways actually.

Good work!
Did you green screen the frozen actors and placed them in front of the actual moving footage/track? How did you do that effect?

I thought it was very well put together!
The Chris Walken Character seemed to be a bit of a mix between Chris Walken and Sean Penn (From We're no angel's.")
I really Liked it.

Very well done, good effects, nicely put together. I know you already talked about it a few posts up, but the preachy-ness was just kind of extreme. It was a good idea, and the message is well incorporated, but it was kind of cliche and stuff. You had a nice spin with the "click" thing, but really the theme is just way overused.

No, I didn't use green screen. I masked everything in Adobe After FX. First film I ever did this in. The whole part where I walk behind myself, woh! That was freakin' hard to pull off and it still doesn't look that great. I wonder how they do it in Click.

Anyway, for the mic, I used a condensor mic. Ugh, I forget the name...I got it from my church. We use it for the drums. It's a thin one though, like a pencil mic. I'll have to check it out and report back to you ok?

thanks for all the compliments guys. I can't wait for more than 8,000 people to view it! I can't wait. Today I went to my brother in law's studio and we fixed up the sound a little bit to take out some of the wind noise and we recorded narration for the intro and end. God bless all of you!

P.S. Christians will be viewing this video not nonchristians. the messages don't need to be watered down...it has to be straight forward...especially for a 5 minute video.

Why did you recommend me to read the Screwtape Letters? Vampiresoup, do you think this film will actually make people laugh. It sorta didn't make my family laugh, but then again, I'm always a joke to them so maybe they're used to it. Did this actually make you guys laugh or giggle, or smile? Just curious. I hope I get some laughs from this video. God bless!

First off, you did a great job technically. Except for a few lighting problems and maybe a few more interesting shots. You really made a great film. As for the preachiness, I felt that the balance between preaching and story was just about right. It is hard to have a morality play without it feeling a bit contrived. I think the video served its purpose overall. As a Christian myself, I was honestly touched by the message. In the future I'd love to see you make the message a bit more subtle. That's something I struggle with also. I don't want to slam my message over people's heads, but I want it to come through...it's hard...really hard. You have really made a great video. You are serving God through film...please keep doing it. It's really rare.

-Michael

Wow thanks Buqui! I feel happy to know that you were touched. That's my purpose here in life...to glorify the name of Christ through my talents. I will continue to make videos and honor my God. God bless you!
