NAB two weeks away!

Any one care to wax poetic on the Panasonic / Apple announcements?

What about the 16GB P2 cards? (or the price effect on the 8)

Better p2 integration and perhaps direct access to mxf files.

As to Panasonic, who knows?

I wish it would provide better Mac support, and hopefully retrofit the 4 pin FW plug to a six pin.

I am excited about the release of the 16gb p2 card. After talking with Panasonic and a couple of their retailers, I found out that they are not planning on dropping the price of the 8gb card. The 16gb will prob be around $2100.

There's no way they can say that authoritatively, because the pricing hasn't been set yet. If the 8GB doesn't drop in price that would be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very surprising. Very. I'm from Vegas, and I'd bet that the 8GB will drop in price when the 16GB is announced.

My guess is:-
16gb @ $1099
8Gb drop to $550
FCP 6 with native MXF support and multi format timeline.
Also the new hardware based version of FCP with I/O card.

I like the sound of that OZ!

If that 8gb drops, I can get by with one more until the the 32gb comes out!

Yeah, I think I'll stick with my 3 8GB cards until I absolutely need a bigger one. FCP6 might be an immediate purchase, though.

FCP 6 has to have native MXF support because FCP is one of the last to adopt, plus apple bought a company that had MXF patents and hired programmers with MXF backgrounds (we're assuming for FCP 6/Extreme)

My guess is there will be 2 versions of FCP... FCP6 will be the successor to FCP 5.1 and FCP Extreme will be the one to require the Apple Hardware I/O Capture / Video Processing Accelleration..

I hope to see 8 Core Mac Pros... It's about normal time for a refresh to the Mac Pro line.. New cases are very possible for Mac Pros as well, esp if new apple hardware is integrated...

As far as P2.. 8gb cards MUST drop in price... Like Barry said, I'd be VERY VERY VERY surprised if they didn't drop the 8 down in price.. My guess is 16 GB for $1299-1499 and 8 GB may drop down to $600ish...4 GB maybe $299 In December when 32 GB should be released, should knock all the prices down..

Okay, I'm from Vegas, and I don't know that I'd take THAT bet! But that's one bet I'd be glad to lose. If all those things happened simultaneously, this would go down in history as the second-best NAB for HVX users, ever (the first being the one where the HVX was introduced!)

it funny cause for me the 4 gigs are still the best because they fit on a dvd which allows for a great on set workflow for narrative shoots.

of course bigger is better for other stuff

Oh.. and I forgot one more apple prediction for NAB in my last post..
I believe apple is going to release new cinema display monitors with higher 4k native resolution to support the 4k REDolution and others Viper, etc... Pixel for pixel display.
Dell has driven the monitor prices down and i'm sure apple lost a bit of market share on their cinema displays due to competitors undercutting them in price.. but they had a hold on the large displays for a while there...
For Apple to bump their screens up to 4k raises the bar and we'll see how the professional and consumer market reacts to it..

I heard a rumor hat a new HVX model is being anounced and it will have 5 P2 card slots...?
sounds stupid, but thats what a purchaser at a rental house in Toronto seems to think...?

Not stupid at all, I'm sure this is what he was talking about.

There's no way that's an updated HVX. With 5 P2 slots it's bound to be a shoulder mount they're talking about.

EDIT: Exactly. See the post above me.

There's the upcoming HPX500 with 4 P2 card slots.. Rumored to be the "Big Brother" to the HVX.. Higher resolution CCDs, 2/3" 3 CCDs, VFR...

HPX500. Everything the HVX is, plus 2/3" chips, interchangeable lenses, 4 audio channels, HD-SDI, TC in/out, 4 P2 slots, shoulder-mount, HD viewfinder...
