It would be a no-charge test, and the results would go on our website and onto our 35mm demo reel, which has samples from many different DV and HD cameras. Whoever provides the footage gets a free print, and our demo reel is typically loaned out free (or for shipping costs) or can be viewed free at our facility here in Austin or at the film lab that we use. There are other ways to view the reel, for example at a private screening room or movie theater, however there is usually a charge for that the filmmaker must pay."

His requirements for the test is the following....

"Regarding canon 24F vs 60i converted to 24P, I would be happy to run a test if someone will send some test footage in the original (mpeg2 stream) format. Make sure the camera is locked down, perfectly in focus, and identical sharpen settings in each mode. A focus chart and some live action would be welcome. We have an upload site that I can email out."

Did I make it a bad title or something? No one is even interested in looking at a thread where you could get your A1/G1/H1 test footage transferred to film for free? I'm thinking this might be an early bird gets the worm kind of thing, so....

Patience. It takes more than twenty minutes to get a bite. Disjecta should get in on this.

I'm patient, just don't want someone who wants to do this/has already made a test accordingly, to miss out on a free transfer opportunity, I'm just guessing these don't come along everyday. I guessing it ain't gonna be like a contest, and will pretty quickly not want any more footage, it's probably which ever one is first and meets the criteria....

I could also provide m2t's and uncompressed footage of both modes for comparison.

Lots of eager folks, here. :)

For those who don't know already, user name mvb, is Marcus of DVFilm, and can be PM'ed here. Exactly what he's looking for is outlined in the last paragraph of the original post, although I do imagine if there is something else you can provide to complete the different methods of originations (perhaps 25P, 50i, HD-SDI out, Component out) he may very well be interested in that as well - and will leave all of us with the most complete picture possible of the capabilities of the A1/G1/H1 series in transferring to film. This is above and beyond the call of duty for Marcus to offer this opportunity, and to make this information known to the filmmaking community as a whole, so do let him know it's much very much appreciated.

Elton - once we know he has footage he's going to use, can this thread be deleted/locked? Just don't want the guy to be receiving stuff weeks from now, simultaneously I didn't want the opportunity slipping by someone interested....

Marcus, why not the HV20 as well?

It will sell like hot cakes.

You might ask him, but I have a feeling that that might be an altogether different topic altogether. We should probably just keep this focused to A1/G1/H1 for right now.

Yes, that would be good.

Sorry I'm a little slow to respond, we have 2 features in house and it's very busy here. Anyone interested please contact me directly at sales@dvfilm.com.

I already did it. And Marcus actually answered my request. Thank you.

As I told him via PM, I'm not the typical prosumer but for some work, this HV20 will rock indeed. Doc work, for instance. War zones, for example.

To include the HV20 into the bundle is a MUST.

On the other hand, this small camera will be the Francis Ford Coppola prediction from the E. Coppola's Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse. It has been coming an undeniable truth these last days.

Great, I wasn't implying that it wasn't capable by any means, just that it might be it's very own bird - what with the CMOS, the different method of arriving at 24P, and all. Still, I'm glad he's going to include it, as it will be interesting to see them side by side, especially considering the likely b-cam usage with A1's at the very minumum. Just didn't want to say "yeah", since he's the one offering this to all of us, and I misplaced words in his mouth just in the last thread. All I knew was what he DID ask for, and was just passing the info along for speed and for the benefit of users here - didn't want to overstep our welcome.

The uses for a camera like this boggle the mind, and to be quite honest, I am seriously considering using three or four mounted throughout my house in the process of making my second feature doc - about Asperger's syndrome, with which my daughter was recently diagnosed. An A1/HV20 should be a powerful force together, or obviously separately as well. Alternately, I may be giving different families with children's with Asperger's or high functioning autism HV20's to use on their own for a month or two, tying together the footage with A1 sit down interviews. For documentary work, the possibilities ARE endless.

Glad he sees it that way too. I just wasn't sure he would.

Yep. Although around the time of Pixelvision, at the time, THAT was supposed to be the camera that some little kid would use to make the movie to end all movies. We've come a LONG way from Pixelvision frankly, thank God, or your lucky stars, for atheists. No looking back now.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I'll be testing a bunch of cams tomorrow. (hopefully)

A1/H1 24F/60i HDV and uncompressed capture.
HV20 24p/60i HDV and uncompressed capture.
Brevis/Canon lenses on all them (again, hopefully. It's another person's rig) and also shot stock lens.
Possibly an HVX too.

:)

Don't know. I uploaded some footage to dvfilm last night, but Martin wanted locked down 24F and 60i footage of the same scene, which I didn't have at my disposal.

He may already have what he needs from someone else, but if it's still wanted, I should be able to get some decent footage tomorrow that could work for his comparison tests.
