oh dear.... you are young!!! :)

NENA did 99 Red Balloons.

Berlin's most popular song (for me) is Metro.

OMG! Think, "Take My Breath Away" from the Top Gun soundtrack, silly Norm!!

Poor Norm.... took a beating on John's joke.

SOOOO!!!!

How is the script coming along? I would love to see your latest revision. I loved the 2 that I read!

Sure wish that I was nearby... I'd love to assist you guys. What a great film you have in the works.

Draft is complete. Rebecca didn't get a chance to view it yesterday (but, boy, we sure all had a blast last night!), and will hopefully have a chance to get to it today.

The bigger challenge is going to be getting a solid 6 minute cut out of it, but I've already got ideas of the essential parts that should still all flow together.

I object to this cheap and blatant attempt to increase the postings in this thread by overtly introducing the "flow" reference.

Lol. I'm not sure if you're referencing how Hudson mentions if a thread has 'flow', or if you're referring to that one where you guys grilled poor Brandon about 'flow'. Not sure I want to know either, lol.

So far, I've rec'd four responses back on this third draft with the new ending, and all four have loved this over the other drafts. Feels good to get off that 50/50 split we had before & have everyone loving the changes we've done on it.

Sent it out to all the crew today, and have a hopeful talent looking at the script now for the male lead role. Assuming they're on board, and the read goes well in a couple of weeks, we'll have our lead. In the meantime, I'll do dead reads (giving zero emotion on my end) with Rebecca so she can get used to not having much to work with. Not that I think who ever we put in the role will be a difficult to work/read off of, but this way she won't be really used to responding to a certain delivery with particular emotions, as well as the fact that any emotion/drama this talent brings to the male role will only improve the mutual performance.

At least it sounds like it'll work in my head ... :) ... this talent most likely won't be around for rehearsals due to their geographic location (will have to fly up here for production). If they don't work out for whatever reason (will know in two+ weeks), and/or I don't find someone else I'm absolutely confident in, then I'll likely play the role. Otherwise, I'm looking for a much smaller part in the script.

Casting players & extras begins this week. Will record the lyrics to the song Herman has already composed/recorded for us in the next week or so as well.

Location scout with Camera/Lighting/Art Department to be held end of this week or first of following week at our main location; Huber's.

Norm,
have you considered looking for vehicles for the external Huber shots?
Some german military and civilian cars in the front would look very cool!

Now THAT'S what I've always fantasized about doing on MY spring breaks. Lucky! :cheesy:

We have considered it, and it's something that James Eubank has been looking into, but is coming up slim on so far. Last he spoke to me about was perhaps trying to find an old motorcycle with side car. Even that would be GREAT, because we could have a couple of drunk soldiers pull up on it, which would still really help to sell the period/mood.

Last resort will be to see if Steve Armenakis can get his hands n a 3D model of a car & perhaps do most/all of that shot in post, mixed with real exterior of the building. Thankfully we still have four weeks before shooting, but this all has to be figured out & lined up within the next two weeks at the latest ... at least for my comfort level & sanity. :)

Have you considered contacting local car clubs (groups that restore old classic vehicles)? I'm sure they would be more than happy to show up with their fully restored "period authentic" vehicle, for credit.

Just a thought

Man, so funny, I was reading the above threads from this one, and thought about trying to drop some fake period cars and then reached the post and had a good laugh. If it's night we might get away with it.

Well I just googled the heck out of classic cars & car clubs in the area. Dealerships or anyone selling obviously isn't interested (tried a few, aren't even interested in renting). FINALLY found ONE car club that had a couple of potentials. Both were mid 1930's, one a Plymouth, the other a Dodge. Though they're not German makes, they're not quite as distinct or recognizeable to the average person as Chevy/Ford might be, so they could be options if the owners are interested. Otherwise, I just can't seem to find any OLD German cars in the area ... I'll keep looking.

Steve, got your PM. Obviously want to exhaust the free option first, but if it's not available & there's a SOLID model out there, that seems like a pretty reasonable price point for a great 3D that would make the shot. Rather than static, however, I'd prefer to up the production value & realism with a moving shot. I know, just what you wanted to hear, lol.

Here's the car you need:

You might try e-mailing a couple of the larger "classic car clubs" as they are often on the move going to various shows and events around the country. It's possible someone may be passing through your area, or near enough to drop in, in a timeframe that works for you nabbing that shot...again, just an idea :)

Here's one site...might be worth at least e-mailing them : http://www.classiccarclub.org/

Another site to check: http://www.members.aol.com/AGW1888/geaahome.htm (located in Orting, Washington...don't know how close that is to you...but a collection of good looking cars)

(found this car here:

)

Here's a Duesenberg (from that second site listed above):

Another idea ... what about getting one of those larger scale die-cast vehicles, shoot it against green screen and then comp it in?

WOW, that one is GORGEOUS. Did an exhaustive search for BMW or Mercedes makes, and nothing's popping up in the area. Left messages with the two dealers of those makes for names of anyone they may know that has a model/year in either of those makes as well (or ANY German/surrounding area car for that matter).

Lol, we need a 1st AD now, before I even worry about 2nd AD. Also, the 2nd AD would probably only be needed for one day, as I'm hoping to work this to where we only need them for one of the Sundays.

Anyway, Stefan just informed me that his schedule won't be allowing him to be involved with BERLIN, so I'm back to looking for a solid 1st AD. That said, got our Grip and Boom Operator positions filled now. :) Updating the first post soon with those.
