Seems DVX is going out of stock in places.

Ive been thinking of getting a DVX lately (and have been lurking in the forums for a while now :) I should have jumped on the Willoughbys price of 2500 last month or so, but now its up to around $2800 (after rebate)

It also seems to be going out of stock everywhere, a few resellers don't even have it listed. Could this mean a big discount coming or discontinue?

Im on a limited budget, so im hoping to wait for find it for $2500 then spend $1500 or so for 35mm adapter and lenses. (have other accessories)

I really want the look of an adapter for an art-type film project, but should i just hold out for something better?

-thanks

wow really? can you confirm this price drop? Any idea of what the rebate will include? magic bullet or anything?

Why not just say Buy 1 Get 1 Free on April 1st?

$900 rebate isnt even that good of an April fools joke.

In April the 16:9 DVX100c will come out. $2000. I saw that some where on the internet!

But really the rebate ends march 31st. So what happens after that? I'm thinking the rebate will go on and a price drop. $2,000 would be a good price.

Maybe Canon will respond with a rebate on the A1 too. I noticed a lot of rebates end this month..

Canon's $250 rebate for the A1 starts on Mar 15th.

I also noticed that there is only 4 stores listed on zdnet.com selling the dvx. I'm considering purchasing the DVX from Abes of Maine for $2510 before march 31st when the rebate ends but I'm very curious of what will happen afterwards. $2000 for a dvx seems way to good to be true. Should I buy now or wait? Can anyone confirm a price drop April 1st or know of a better price than Abes?

I think the post about the price drop on April Fool's Day is probably not gonna happen, after the 31st I doubt the price will go up. They certainly may extend the same rebate, although I have noticed how even B&H have the dvx's on special order now, so who knows. You may also want to get some verification from other DVXusers that purchased from Abe's and received rebate and goodies. Abe's may not post on their site whether or not the dvx is in stock, and wait until you buy it to then tell you it's out 'o stock. You may just want to check some authorized dealers like EVS or abelcine and see what there prices are, I do believe they will give a dvxuser discount.
good luck

I can't see the price going up for a SD camera. You can get a Canon A1 after the rebate for $3250.

Speaking just for myself (and nobody else, so don't wig out :)), I was wondering if I'd pick up the DVX100b for $2000 - the answer is "no", since I'd rather pay another $1200 and get the Canon A1.

So then, I started thinking, well at what price would I pick up a DVX100b? For a $1000? You know what - $1000 is a lot of money (for me). I'd rather put that $1000 toward getting the A1. Because really, witht that $1000, the A1 would only cost another $2200 extra. Meanwhile, I totally understand that it would not be economical for Panasonic to sell the DVX100b for $1000. Tough. Because even at that price I'm not buying. Even $500 is a lot of money. I wouldn't pay $500 for the DVX at this point. Not with the A1 around. I mean, would you pay $100 for an top of the line reel to reel recorder from 1970? I mean, it's perfectly usable, they used that a lot back in the 70's... perfectly usable. Yet you wouldn't spend that $100, because even $100 is too much for that technology given the alternative ways of spending that $100. Honestly, the most I'd pay is $80 for a brand new $DVX100b.

Which is a roundabout way of saying, that DVX100b is fast approaching the status of "dead in the marketplace" for many people. Not for all - note the OP and many others who would still pay $ for the camera (there is no right or wrong decision here), just for increasing number of people there is practically NO amount of money that is right for the DVX (excluding nostalgia and special collector markets etc.). One day - I suspect soon - it will be truly dead.

Really, Panasonic has to think hard about a followup to the DVX100b - the sooner the better (and no, the HVX200 is not it). Because there's a gaping hole in their lineup where the DVX100 used to be - and where Canon and Sony have now encrouched. Frankly, I believe that already Panny has blown it - they should have come out with the folloup already last year around September... instead they milked the DVX100 a little bit more, too long, and allowed Canon and Sony to take away their market. It's not too late altogether, Panny still has a lot of loyal customers, but at this point every day that passes without a followup is a day closer to marketing defeat for Panny.

I am also considering buying a DVX100B but I can wait. Does anyone really know what will happen with the rebate or price once April 1st hits?? I am assuming it is something for NAB. Any one even know who to contact??

CANON A1 : I also had a question about this...Isn't this a HDV camera that uses MPEG2 compression? If so, won't that become obsolete once the AVC cameras with MPEG4 compression start becoming readily available?

I think a lot of SD cams are in the same boat. I see people selling used XL1s or 2s and I remember how hot i used to be for one, but now...I just can't fathom why anyone would buy one. It's an interesting time.
