Copying Files Back to the P2 Card?

Was on a shoot out of town for a few days, using a couple HVXs. We shot about twenty full cards in total. Came back and one is giving me all kinds of trouble.

Almost ready to throw in the towel for it, but first wanted to try seeing if I could copy the files back to a card and try just doing a fix from within the camera. Unfortunately, whenever I try to copy files over, I get an error saying "Cannot copy [file names]: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)."

Figured that might just be the end of it, that those files are definitely dead, but then I tried some files that I knew definitely aren't corrupted and got the exact same error.

I've read, countless times, that it's no problem to copy data back to the cards on a PC. So any ideas on why I'm not having any luck?

Thanks!

You just copy and paste the whole "Contents" folder and "Last Clip.txt" file over back onto the card?

I even just tried to shoot something, dump it on the PC, format the card, then try to re-upload it and it still didn't work. Keep getting that data error.

I do it all the time. Format the card, copy the "CONTENTS" and "LASTCLIP.TXT" back on, and play it back in the camera. Never had a problem. Is your write-protect tab on or something? Do you need to update the firmware on your 4GB cards?

Check your P2 drivers to make sure they're up to date. Try it from another computer maybe... the process definitely works, so you have to narrow down why it's not working for you.

Great. Thanks. Hadn't thought of updating the drivers. Was just assuming it was acting as a removeable drive and little else. Will give it a go.

Amazing! Who would have thought? I'm uploading the clips right now. Might find out that these clips are dead after all, but hey, I can't thank you enough for at least letting me see it for myself.

By the way, it sounds to me like the hard drive in your computer is on the way out. I hope you are making backups...

I will second the motion of a bad HDD. Everytime I have run into cyclic redundancy check errors, I run into much bigger problems later (data recovery is horribly expensive by the way) My advice to you is to go out buy a new HD and use a program like Acronis True image to clone it to a new drive (This is assuming you are running windows). You will be glad you did.
