Slow motion with the A1

I want to compare straight slow motion from premiere (slowed the footage down at 50% and allowed frame blending) to twixtor...I'm still exporting the twixtor version for comparison.

Here is the premiere version (which doesn't feels right):

P.S - Watch the comments, you pack of horny bastards. That's my sister.

Any advice would be appreciated. People say it's better to shoot interlaced with a high shutter speed, right?

Twixtor will beat Premiere anyday at slowmo but there are other ways to get great results that dont require something expensive like Twixtor. Take 60i footage and deinterlace to 60p in AE and from 60p you can do just as much as folks do with the HVX to an extent, its nice. :)

Can I de-interlace to 60p with Vegas, or must I have After Effects?

Hum, that is an interesting option to Twixtor...which has outrageous rendering times even in a fast machine.

BTW, I shot at 1/50 using Canon's "progressive". In situation's like this is where we should be able to see if it's true progressive or not. Let me just say this was not shot with slow motion in mind. I was simply taking my sister to the zoo on her birthday and ended shooting some stuff...and later I got curious about slow motion.

I'm told Vegas does a really good job of interlace to progressive 60p conversion.

Here's an extended version of a slowmo clip I did with the Nattress FCP plug-in. This was XL-H1 1080i converted to 24p slowmo.

Cool stuff as usual, my friend. Natress is a kick as plug in...too bad they don't have it for premiere.
BTW, what was your shutter speed? Oh, what camera presets?

rawfa,

Try shooting with twice the normal shutter speed of 25F which would be 1/100 instead of 1/50 for you. This emulates 180 degree shutter angle for a 50% or half speed slowmo.

That clip was 1/120 shutter (this is 180 degree for 60i) and the camera preset was just simple Cinegamma 2 and a few other minor tweaks.

Someone posted awhile back on another thread a bunch of deinterlacing plug ins, etc for Windows. Do a search.

Elton, my good samaritan friend, did you mean I should shoot at 1/100 using 25F? I tried shooting at 1/150 because I thought it might give me even more elbow room, but it looks kind of jumpy (way better than the first footage I've posted though). Let me see if I got your logic. I more or less should base the shutter speed while recording on the percentage I plan to slow down my footage on post. Is this correct?

Yes, it'll probably look less "jumpy" or "steppy" if you add a little motion blur by dropping down to 1/100.

Pretty much, but try lots of different combos of shutter speed and slowmo % in NLE's and see what looks best to you.

I really don't understand rapidshare. After I upload my videos it gives me a link that works for like 24hours and then it stops working and they send me another link. Whatta hell?! I'm uploading a new test I just made. It's pretty goofy but I think the results came out good.
