Live capture from the FS-100 into Final Cut?

Hi there,

I try to hook up my fs-100 to the mac in order to capture some footage live into the final cut pro that I cannot import otherwise - I have tried everything but somehow I cannot get it to work. the firestore is recognized as a "panasonic dv" camera but the footage is not showing.

(live recording the footage into fcp seems to be my last option after p2 import have failed with some clips that I have accidenially recorded AFTER I have used the "organize P2" option.)

please help, I am coming close to a deadline with my project!

I have recorded in DVCPRO50 with my hvx200 onto the fs-100 and used the "organize P2" before importing into Final cut pro - here comes the stupid part: I forgot to format the firestore before I started to record fresh footage and recorded another 10 clips. when I tried to "organize P2" again the firestore wouldn't convert these files and put them into the Contents video and audio folder, but instead they landed in a folder called "20070307-085918-01". Also they where named like "20070307-161019A01.mxf".
I have not been able to import these files into FCP OR Avid, when I dump them in the Avid Mediafiles/MXF/1 folder they come up green and distorted, avid reads them as dv25 although they are recorded in dv50.
Still - when I dumped them back onto the fs-100 they showed on the Camera wihtout any damage - so now I am seeking a way to record the clips live either in DV25 or DV50 on the HVX or directly on an NLE - so far without any luck!
I have also addressed this problem in this thread here:

just spoke to the focus (firestore) people here in germany, their first answer was: there is no way to live stream the firestore footage into an NLE since there is no driver for the firestore to be recognized as a dv device...
will find out more tomorrow...

Ok, problem solved,

just had another chat with the focus guys here in germnay, in order to be able to live capture into Avid I had to go from "tapeless" to "AV/C" in the controll tab of the firestore and select DV50 in the capture tool for the import resolution of Avid MediaComposer.

As for the "P2 organize" mess I have created - according to focus support I should be able to organize for P2 import manually by just moving the files by hand to the "content/video" and "content/audio" folder and ALSO the ".xml" files from the "log"-folder into the "content/clip" folder. I haven't tried that since I am happy with live capturing into Avid for the few clips that I was missing....

Still, if someone has an idea how to hook up the FS-100 to a mac as a dv-device for live capturing...??

We were able to get the FS to connect to FCP for a live catpure but the audio was not sync'd up because we had to disable timecode to get it to capture at all, we are still having problems and the amount of time we have spent on these issues it would have been better to just reshoot.

I think all your problems come from a wrong setting in the first place, for us in the DV menu we had it set to "RAW DV" instead of "P2" thats why your P2 dident organize, because it was RAW DV. Editing systems dont like the files so your only option is a live capture. It sucks I dont understand why one would ever want to record to RAW DV
