Duel-Systems Adapter has been officially released

Man I would love to see there sales numbers just from today, I think every person I know has already ordered one.

Cant wait, placed my order an hour ago. They should have released this many moons ago.
Only 3-4 more weeks left.

Wonder if the XP drivers will work in Windows 2000?

I keep toying with the idea of getting a new notebook, but have held onto mine because it has Cardbus... With the price as cheap as it is, this makes me reconsider...

It is really a nice price, even with the shipping cost to the Netherlands included. Even nicer that the dollar has a nice value against the euro. Nice, nice.

Woo hoo! I woke up to this beautiful thread. Got my order in. Now I need to work on getting a pair of p2 cards :(

i just got this email from them

To All DuelAdapter Customers:

1. Panasonic P2 Card and MAC OS X users with DuelAdapter:

(a) Panasonic will be releasing a MAC OS X driver for the Panasonic P2
card(s) on their website by the first of April 2007. This Panasonic driver
update will allow you to use your P2 card in the new DuelAdapter product.

(b) When using the DuelAdapter (a peripheral) in MAC OS X Systems, it
may be removed from the computer only one time. A second insertion and
removal of the DuelAdapter will require a system restart (to use the
DuelAdapter). This is due to a peripherals management limitation that
exists in MAC OS X (10.4.8 or 9). A fix to this issue to allow multiple
insertions in MAC OS X is expected in a future release from Apple Computer
and/or Duel Systems.

2. Compatibility: A PC card and computer compatibility list is available
on the website, www.duel-systemsadapters.com, in the Product Support
Section. You may check for compatibility of your cards on-line. Although
we have tested many PCMCIA cards and notebook computers, it is possible
yours may not be listed. If your card is a standard PCMCIA card, 16 or 32
bit, and the card driver runs on Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.4.8, it is highly
likely that your card will work with the DuelAdapter. If the card doesn't
work with the DuelAdapter, you can return the product within 30 days of
purchase for a refund.

so i guess as long as you keep the duel adapter in the machine you can insert and remove p2 cards without having to restart. but if you remove the duel adapter more than once you have to restart.

Not sure if I see that being a pain in the field. Might be annoying having it hanging off the side all the time to avoid restart. Guess that's a small gripe, and a temporary one at that.

Thanks for posting that, mangler. Good to know.

Damn it. This is what i get for ordering it the second i got the email the other day. i hope the mac driver really does come out in April. remember when there was all the talk about the adapter being released last year. Also... am i reading this right? I cant use the adapter AT ALL until the driver comes out in April?

you can use the adaptor just fine as is on the MBPro, it just will not allow you to remove and replace the adaptor without restart. I may have brought a great deal of footage into FCP and with P2 Genie using this setup, can't say for sure. it works very well, just don't remove the duel adaptor unless you're going to restart before resuming import.

since this release i've been looking at getting a macbook pro now.

this may be a dumb question but if i'm using the macbook pro/PCMCIA adapter in the field is there some software or a way to preview the p2 footage (is full screen preview possible)?

or would i have to import everything into FCP before i can see how the footage turned out?

right now i've just been using an old PC laptop with the free p2 viewer. not sure if they have that for mac?

yea, that's true. maybe i'll just do that rather than buying p2 log, i thought it would be a cheap little program for viewing footage fullscreen.

Keep in mind that both FCP and P2Log show a lowres proxy of the footage so don't use it to check focus.

You could always install Boot Camp on the MBP and run P2 Viewer on that; an MBP should be fast enough to show full-screen playback.

that's a good idea too, i dont know much about bootcamp though, will that open my MBP up to any windows viruses targeted for vista/xp???

i've had to reformat my PC a good amount of times because of viruses and it'd be a pain to have to do it on the mac where my 'important' work is.

oh i didnt realize that. i just need to check my footage for exposure issues really. i'm having problems on very bright sunny days. sometimes i underexpose too much with the ND filters.

Other than some word viruses, the Mac can't inherit issues from the PC side.
