Is it okay to store different P2 modes on same hard drive?

I have shot three 8GB P2 cards at 720P 24N and copied them to a
Lacie hard drive. I guess that means that I have 12 partitions left.

I want to shoot DVCPRO 50 24P tomorrow onto the P2 card and store
it on the same Lacie. I'm just getting started at this so I want to know
if it's okay or if since I started storing 720P 24N do I have to stay with
that only for this drive?

My guess is that they're all P2 files but I don't want to screw anything
up. Thanks!

The camera doesn't care what is on the drive, the only time it matters is when you put it in your editor -- some will not allow you to mix formats. I use Edius on the PC, and by default it conforms all assets to the settings of the sequence that the clips are used in.

Thanks but to be sure, does the drive care what's on the drive? The
P2 card creates 15 partitions on the hard drive. Can those partitions
hold different modes? I'm still getting started shooting P2 (love it)
and copying/storing on the hard drive
and haven't got to ingesting/editing yet.

What problem do you think might occur?

In a word, "No." The drive doesn't "care". I'm pretty sure it doesn't even "know". While the camera may "know" because it controlled what/how footage was recorded, all the drive "knows" is that it's getting files, i.e. digital data. While it may be video & audio, it's still just 0's and 1's.

Just to be clear, exactly what do you mean by "mode"? i.e. are you shooting half a card of DVCPROHD and half DVCPRO50? Even if you are, I don't think it would matter. In order to do that, you;d have to make menu changes. When you stop recording one mode, then change menu, then record another mode, you'd end up with unique clips, each separate from another.

Your P2 card holds "X" GB. Each offload that occurs unloads whatever is contained in those "X" GB.

Where you may run into a problem is when you try to bring different modes into your NLE. That is where the settings matter more...not on a hard drive dedicated to offloading.

Nothing cares, not the camera, not the drive, not your computer. They all let you mix different formats in different partitions, or even the same one.

Your editor might care once you try to use mixed formats in one sequence, but nothing else does.

Thanks ! By modes I mean that I have 720P 24N footage and DVCPRO 50
footage, for different projects and different timelines but I wanted to be sure
that I could store them all on the same drive.

I guess to the drive though, it's all 1s and 0s.

I'll be the editor so I'll probably get along with the editor.

Thanks again!
