What Laptop are people using to capture w/ great results?

Dude, the search function is practially useless.... i dont blame anyone for not using it.

Idunno maybe im spoiled by Google.

Two things.

Provide a search across forums.

Don't limited the searches to one every minute.

You just sit there and wait if a bad term is used to use the function again.

But searching does work.

OK lets make an experiment.

im looking for the thread "Snow day" by Motivity. I searched it and i got 2 threads, neither o which have to do with Motivity. one of them mentioned the video "Snow day", but it was very inannacurate. i agree with the more than one per minute.

Search terms are limited to once a minute to prevent spam bot abuse and a plethora of bot postings.

Would you rather search every 61 seconds or have so sift through 1000s of spammed posts about penis enlargers and herbal viagra?

And would you enjoy the banner ads ads it would take to offset the bandwidth costs used by all the spammers.

Or would you enjoy having to pay to register to avoid all of that?

I agree that the current search is near useless and is the reason you see so many repetitive posts, not just people being lazy. The search disregards words with 3 or less letters and gives results of multiple thread titles rather than posts, so you must search through the threads until you find something in highlighted type that pertains. The google search restricted to this site is the best idea I have heard in a long time.

Hey,

I have been using a 1.67 Ghz 17" powerbook with 1 gig of ram loaded with FCP Studio. Seems really solid so far. Also (2) 100 gig firewire 800 G-raid Mini's. Portable which is what I need as I shoot quite a bit of wildlife footage here in Montana.

I've been experimenting with an old Apple G4 1GHZ titanium (DV Monitor Pro) and a new duo core 1.8 PC laptop (DV Rack) and as near as I can tell they both do the actual capture great. The PC software (DV Rack) is way more robust, but it costs 2.5x as much as DV Monitor Pro so I'm kinda torn between the two. But you asked about hardware not software. You'll want something with enough RAM and a decent video card in order to get the best (least latent) playback, but from what I can tell the capture itself doesn't require a super laptop.

(take everything I say with a grain of salt I'm just learning about this myself)

Bare bones here. 867 mgz 15" PB with an 80 gig 5400 rpm Orange LaCie mini FW drive attached. Have captured a 1 hour chunk of 720 24p direct to drive. Works like a charm. Need the FW PCMCIA card. I bouight this PB used for under $500 and droped a gig of RAM in it. Very happy. 867 mgz. is the minimum that FCP will run on.
