Tarantino's and Rodriguez's "Grindhouse"

It will be shorter than an LOTR film, unless they have decided to increase the orginal length of each film. There is the rumor that its length has been increased from 180 minutes to 223. I wonder if that includes an intermission or is only film time.

Splitting defeats the purpose of a double feature grindhouse experience, which is what they are supposively trying to do.

While I love Tarantino and most of his work, I would not consider him a master. He really hasn't done anything TRULY SIGNIFICANT since Jackie Brown. Kill Bill, masterful work? Not really. It is lame that for over a year he has been claiming he wants to give people the double feature experience and to make these films in a true "grindhouse" way. Look around for his vids at conventions and listen how excited he is about a double feature. Makes me wonder if this is a QT/RR choice, or a Weinstein/distribution/$$$$$ one.

One a side note, I'm glad I'm not the only person who appreciates Jackie Brown. For some reason a lot of people I know, hate it. I think it's his best, and most mature work.

I love both Rodriguez and Tarantino, so I've been anticipating Grindhouse for a long long time. I love From Dusk Till Dawn, so I'm really interested in seeing what horror they'll come up with this time around.

Sounds fricken lame! Splitting the film/s NULLIFIES what these films are all about.

Sounds like a $$$$$ grab.

not really some people can only sit for so long. average people will be like is it over yet i mean its almost five hours long plus if anything tarintino would make more money due to his name and hes establish as a master of cinema (yeah he takes from people so what) when RR is a guy who got toys....
I get what jpeck is saying though, it's part of the whole "concept" that they are packaged together so it "lessens" the artistic experience some.

I am definitely going to see it all together. Maybe I will go down to NC and see it with Hudson and we can take our Geritol, sit on our but donuts and lower back supports, wear our nicotene patches and catheters and watch the thing.

Makes perfect sense to me. "Grindhouse" is unique to American cinema. Besides, each film will still be feature length so it's not as if anyone will be ripped off. Nobody in Europe will miss the "grindhouse" aspect because they never experienced it to begin with.

I'd make the same business decision if it were me. Heck, the studio wouldn't be doing a very good job if they didn't take advantage of the situation.

I've never experienced it. But that's the part of the point. To bring something to a people that never experienced it. I don't think it's a sign of the apocalypse that the films will be broken up or anything, but it diminishes the filmmakers' intent.

If they never experienced it, it is even more of a reason that it should be played together in the way it was originally intended to be seen. I thought QT was all about bringing new types of cinema to people who have never experienced it, guess not. QT has the clout to do what he wants. Their integrity goes out the window with splitting the film into two.

Just as Jack said, it is not the end of the world, but imo, it is pretty poo poo poo pooing LAME.

I'm all for it. I think this little movement makes a bright spot in the otherwise milky sludge that is most of what is coming out of Hollywood. It see the trailers and I smile. I know what to expect from a movie about a chic with a machinegun for a leg. I'm hungry for something different. I know it's rehash, but it's a modern take on something that was mostly forgotten. Some choose to forget...I strain to remember...I was very young the first go around and mostly caught cult showings or wierd late-nite hacking jobs. All I know is that when I see the trailer, the "wow, cool, man" kid in me and the "that was bad ass" adult in me do a hi-5.
The only issue I have is the deleted reel crap. I don't see that as charming or cool. I know it happened back in the day, but it never happened on purpose and I can't imagine that it ever made the film any better. Now it's placed just right, I could see QT using it as a different way to tell the story. I'm sure that is the case...man, I hope that is the case.

I can see the deleted reel thing as being lots of fun. In the middle of The Departed? Not so much. But these things look like such roller coaster rides, i.e., designed for fun, that I can see it being a joke or a gag that the audience might even like the fun off. It sounds basically like a reshuffle of the movie. He's said that people that were fighting and stuff are like allies and good friends after the missing reel. So I can see that as just a fun joke. I think as long as the audience "gets it" it could all be part of the fun, the inverted loop on the roller coaster.

Wow. I typed this whole post and spell check didn't find anything. That's never happened before.

I agree about the lost reel. It is part of the experience QT/RR are trying to give us, just like it should be a double POO POOING feature!
