Personally, I could never rationalize getting a Mini-DV VTR. For what it costs, you could get a decent consumer-level Mini-DV camera to do VTR work, 3-CCD even if you go with a Panasonic instead of a Sony.

Ooooh...I suppose I shouldn't carbomb your thread. Maybe you'd like to share why you bought one in the first place?

Please limit posting to discussion of the specific item for sale by interested parties.

Horse is right, and 900 is a steal for this deck, I'm even considering it.

I'd explain, but I seriously doubt you'd get it. Suffice to say there's a reason why professional post houses use VTRs instead of $150 camcorders purchased from ebay. [/rant]

VTR's have a lot faster and precise motors than chep camcorders. Also they have QUALITY video recording heads, not a camcorder's one that is desinged for consumers and not for industrial use.

I can assure you that this VTR will hold up a lot more than a $150 cam. You can also take it to the field and use it as a monitor.. it runs on bateries! I think its a great product, too bad I dont have the money for it...

Giving the client a gadget to play with that lets them see what you're doing so that they'll shut up and let you do your job = awesome.:beer:

Correction: I couldn't rationalize getting a portable VTR deck when you could just get a cheaper cam to do the job.

I use a full-size Mini-DV VTR deck when I'm at the studio. :happy:

These units are extremely popular in the production world, it only takes a visit to one real set to see that. Also, with the emergence of reality TV, there are producers running around everywhere with these.

ash =o)

Alrighty, sounds reasonable. I just wanted an opinion as I have seen these in use before, but personally, I just use an additional Mini-DV cam or DVRack. No need to bust chops.

Good luck with your sale, Mflo.

Great item, I have been using one for the past 4 years, never an issue. It is also a great client monitor on set. I'd buy it if I didn't already own one. This is a great deal, don't pass it up.
