My Wish List For Panasonic

This is not criticism, but at least my perception of what I trust needs some improvement between Panasonic and its user base.

1. Better communication (and responsiveness) about promotions, and better quality control and auditing in those promotions, ie 8 Gb card;

2. Cross platform firmware updates for Mac and PC platforms on parity;

3. A HVX200 web site that is easier to navigate for users and provides parity for Windows and Mac browsers;

4. More and better company written tutorials on HVX200/Panasonic products downloadable in pdf format. And improved operations manual.

5. Better working relationships and interoperability between 3rd party developers for the HVX200, ie readers, NLEs, etc.

6. Less expensive and higher capacity p2 cards :) -- soon.

Anybody else?

I'd still love to be able to set a user button to switch between two different recording modes with different scene files.

I constantly switch between 720pn 60fps , 720pn 24fps and 1080 modes.
Sometimes by the time I switch to the format I want, the shot is gone. To be able to assign user buttons to different recording modes each with it's own scene file would be killer for me!

I like to be able to assign the user buttons to the focus assist and a quick delete of the last clip. For safety maybe the user button and then a 1 button confirmation. Too many buttons to delete clips.

1. the ability to watch any clip in the thumbnail viewer without having to go back to that recording mode.
2. the ability to downconvert to mini dv as full frame mode
3. a p2 webpage that tells you what format you can shoot in to go into what NLE
4. a flip-flop your footage function like the jvc hd-250

I'll second, third and fourth the "Delete last clip" button. Huge waste of space on P2 cards right now.
And fix the 480 60i jaggies. That's a real show stopper. :thumbdown
Still love the camera though.

My HVX Wish List

My HVX Wish List

I second the motion for this one. I'd also love for the next generation HVX-200 to poses a slightly longer lens (at least 16x) while maintaining its current wide angle abilities (is it possible?), HDMI in/ output, a 3.5" lcd viewfinder with a little more resolution combined w/ the ability to flip the image. While I'm at it, lets go for ccd sensitivity at least equal to that of the DVX-100b. Last but certainly not least, the ability to record in either DVCPRO-HD as well as AVC Intra! I think this would be far and above better than any other hand held camera ever made; well worth 7k:thumbsup:

The focus assist could be better, perhaps something similar to the JVC-HD100's. It really sucks having to shift composition just to use the focus assist.

Firewire 6-pin connector. Even if they don't use the two power pins, the 4-pin connector they use was developed by Sony, and it's weak and cheap. It cheapens the camera. A 6-pin connector will fit on the camera and would not cause any engineering problems. For the love of all that is good, trash this cheap ass worthless 4-pin FW connector and get a good, proven, solid 6-pin connector!

Ben can sure turn a phrase.

Ditto on his remarks.

- How about a built in Laser for measuring out critical focus?

- Better low light sensitivity.

Good points all around, but not likely to happen by NAB in my opinion. Maybe towards DV Expo time but not NAB unless Panasonic surprises everyone. :)

I doubt any of us are expecting that. Or I don't anyways. I doubt if any of this will make it into HVX at all.
At the rate of new cameras coming out, Panasonic is likely to just move on to a newer version.

I'd like a hand held, as in under 2 pounds,
P2 only camcorder.
Under $1,000

cut cost in every way except, image quality to keep it under $1,000.

The HVX200 is nice, but sometimes, I like to go lightweight, and my
Panasonic mx3000 is getting long in the tooth.

Thinking of the 200a and 200b:

I'll second (or third, or whatever it should be) the user button solutions, many different application of these buttons would be hughe for me too, such as the super idea of a "delete last clip with a one button confirmation"... this one seems to me like the old trick of putting thicker cylinder heads to make the engine "smaller" just so that they don't have to spend money on designing anything for the next year version... so I think that getting on them about this one will very likely spell success

Also second the idea of a high pixel count LCD, but same size so all that needs to be replaced is the screen itself, no further development... still trying to keep it easy for Panny

Also, second the 6-pin... it scares me so when I use it... makes my freakin' ulcer act up

Also, viewing different-format clips without having to switch...

so mainly software stuff, there is a lot more potential to be sweezed out of the HVX... some small hardware replacements could prove big... high resolution small LCDs are getting much cheaper, PDAs iPods and so on have pressed that sector forward recently, so maybe that would be a good one for Panny to take up for us :) since focusing it is such a widely discussed problem and of such importance

And now one of my own:
To provide 200 users with the ability to update the software of our cameras to the 200a and 200b versions! :) Is this technically possible Barry?

I was thinking about this thread yesterday and I thought of something Panasonic could do to shake the competition. A healthy price drop on the HVX200, nothing big, but perhaps a $1,000 - $1,500 drop. Adding the dropping prices of P2 cards on top of that and I think things would get even more interesting.

Something that enters into dream territory would be a massive drop on the DVX100B. If they dropped it down to about $1,499 or even $1,999 then some heads would blow up for sure. I can't imagine how fast Andromeda sales would spike upwards. Obviously Panasonic would have to do something to compete against not only the dropping price of the A1 but also the new HV20 (assuming that the 24p mode on that turns out to be as good as we hope).
