Dance Video on A1

A dance group that I've been collaborating with hired me to film their latest song just in time for to test out the new A1! When I shot this I had the camera for two days and the way the image came out totally blew me away. This is the first cut so you might notice some parts where the colors aren't CC to match, but this is pretty indicative of what the A1 is capable of.

Sorry guys, the file is rather big, 258 mb for the four minutes dance.

bro, that is some good footage! first full night/dark scene clip. I always have a fear of editing music videos because shots have to be retaken and recomposed. its just too much work.

two things though i noticed during the video.

1) were you trying to block an exit light with a dark bar?

if the shot was still at some points you could export to images then edit(clone/heal) to copy materials from surrounding areas that way it looks like no exit was ever there. since you're exporting a clip to images, you might want to consider actions.

2) i saw some ghosting(one the lead), unless that was an effect?
Using Image Stabilizer with Tripod or was it an actual effect?

i respect you for the patience to edit music videos.

Excellent Work!!!!!!

I noticed the ghosting too, it actually looked kind of cool. How many times did they have to do that to get all the coverage? I think it's going to turn out excellent. Your client is going to be very pleased.

Thanks! That ghosting effect isn't supposed to be there actually, I think it was added somehow during the rendering process. I did use SteadyMove to stabilize some of the moving shots. I'll have to look into that.

I was trying to block the exit light but for some reason on certain media players the contrast was reduced so the black bar becomes visible. I'll certainly fix it in the next cut.

I had them do about nine takes total, one from each different angle and we wrapped in about two hours. I've worked with this dance group before and they really are amazing; nine takes and they were perfectly synchronized every time. Once I synched the footage to the soundtrack it was like I have nine cameras covering them simultaneously.

Sorry, I'm confused...

OOPS! I didn't think that actually posted! I haven't figured this screen grab thing out yet.

Anyway, jade8472, with your permission, I am posting some color graded screen grabs of this video. It is beautifully shot and I thoroughly enjoyed tinkering with the color. The style I was after can be seen in the film The Illusionist (the flashback sequence). OK, here are the grabs:

nice grabs man

i too notice some ghosting, but more so when i shoo at 1/48th shutter. I guess it could come from the fact that there is no REAL shutter on a digital camcorder?

Thanks PaPa.

Yeah, as far as the ghosting goes, I thought it looked kinda cool in motion, but that's just me. I love the video and thought jade did an excellent job in his shooting.

Hey, that's really cool, thxn identity! The ghosting is definitely a rendering issue as it doesn't appear while I was editing. I've gotten the dancers' comments and I've assembled a final edit (still not color corrected). But I'll post the new version on soon!

Thanks jade8472. I was hoping you'd be ok with me posting the grabs. Also, I love the footage. Great job!
