I know a few people here have been waiting on this for quite some time, but the wait is over! I present you this semi-ghetto video tutorial that will instruct you how to encode HD xvids the correct way for free! I had to make the video REZ smaller because the flash codec was giving me trouble, however, if you want a full rez copy, simply shoot me a private message. :)

All you will need before you get started is the FREE xvid codec installed on your machine.

To view the tutorial click here:

Ill warn you that the file is around 100Mb so it will take so time to load. Also, turn y our speaks up all the way!

Enjoy

Can barely hear the audio, and I've got my stuff cranked up. Teh SFX are coming through nicely, but I can barely hear you.

yeah i know :( For some dumb reason the screen recording software screws with my MBOX mixer settings and makes everything sound like total crap.

srry about that... And yeah they blow out the stupid sfx as well. lol

Whoa dude, those SFX scared the crap out of me. The typing noises were like machine guns rounds whizzing by my head!

No worries, I enjoyed the tutorial nonetheless. Thanks!

Thanks for tute J, a lot of work in that.

Does Xvid make more compact files and potentially higher quality than encoding to H264 and/or WMV?

Xvid mostly popular for playback on the TV set top box that decode that codec?

h264 can produce better 1080P images, however, xvid has far better sizes.

Thanks J, I am interpreting "sizes" as compressed data sizes. Interesting Avatar. :D

ahhh. And yeah. I dont know why the hell i made this avatar. About 7 years ago i used to wear strictly all ben davis pants and people would make fun of the fact that im from San Francisco so i played with the stereo type and made it say "bendover" even though im not gay in the slightest. Since then i just never changed it. haha

J,

have u tried encoding in x264.mkv? I've watched some material using this codec and imo it is incredible.

The video quality IMO matches that of broadcast 720P hd (5.1 audio included ~comparable to a high quality h.264) yet id say it takes only 2/3 of the space requirement that a comparible 720p wmvhd ~5mb/s (2 channel stereo only) would.

ie. 4.5 mins of x264.mkv would take up maybe 110 mb meanwhile 4.5 mins of wmvhd 720p 5mb/s would take up 165 mb, yet the video quality resembles a highly quality h264 encode. (my numbers are approximate as the x264.mkv i watch is 24fps and wmvhd 720p that i am referring to is 30fps)

OK question about the encoding. My raw files are .m2t, not .m2v and the first program doesn't support .m2t. Is there a workaround for this?
