The Fallen: our entry to DramaFest

..well, im certainly not good at compressing a H.264 from PPRO 2.0 . i swear, if i hadnt broken down and bought some external compression software to do a decent encoding, i would be lying face down in a pool of my own vomit and hitting myself repeatedly in the crotch right now. its just a sad ..sad scene. i think i spent over 15 hours trying to get a decent file through about a trillion compression settings.

... WM9 .. no problem. mpg2 ...no problem.. in fact just about anything else is no problem. but asking PPRO to output a decently compressed quicktime is like sticking your face in a blender.

annnnnnyyyyhow. i think i can finally sleep now. and i hope you enjoy the film :)
That gave me a good chuckle (what you said). I really enjoyed your short. It had a different feel than a lot of the other ones I have watched. It was technically very sound. The plot slightly confusing but still able to follow most of it. And for only six minutes, I was really attached the main character and hoping he wouldn't die. So I was you spared his life :) Great job!

that main actor spent 4 or so hours actually tied up while getting water in the face and endless "blood" applications during the shoot. after putting him through that im glad he spared MY life :)

Last minute watching before the voting ends and yet another great short ..you guys are making this difficult !!.
Loved the opening shots in B&W , Makes kind of wish it was all in B&W but hey that's just me .
The music was excellent along with the voice over .

Great Job Neil and the best of luck .

Hi Neil,

Very ambitious short here. The opening was really well done, I felt like we could be watching the winning entry; you set-up a dark mood and style in the opening reminiscent of a superhero blockbuster; but I felt it lost it a little after this. I'm sure the sound has been mentioned but it's a sad fact that no matter how great your visuals are the sound will just throw things down a peg or two.

Overall there's far too many good things to say about it, but not everything clicked into place for me as a finished piece. It was a little confusing narratively and I started losing the thread a few minutes in. The main character was maybe too much at arms length to feel enough for him emotionally. That said however, once I struggled to hear the sound I felt my attention dropping off so maybe I am not giving the script the credit it deserves.

However, all in all I'd say you have some real talent here, that's obvious. You handle pacing well and provided some great visual candy. Clearly a lot of work went into this and it shows. While I would say that this is not as complete or satisfying as some other entries here, I think you're certiainly a name to be looking out for at these fests in the future.
