Frame Rates on A1

Elton I saw youre online - or anyone else. Not with the A1 right now. I need to check something. Im Camera mode(as in not video mode) the manual says in the fast shooting mode there three speeds. 3fps, 5fps, and 60.

Now my question is this: How does the camera operate?

LIKE THIS?

SECOND START >blank | frame | blank | frame | blank | frame< SECOND END

So in this version IT DOES shoot 3 full frames within the second but not for the duration of the entire second.


OR THIS?

SECOND START>frame | frame | frame<SECOND END

So in this version its shooting 3 full frames per second spanning the entire time frame the same as say the HVX.


If the later is true, then isnt it then possible to achieve 3fps shooting? It would of course require post manipulation, so they frames are accurately laid - import as image sequence or the like, which isnt hard anyway.

Anyone care to try it? Im still afew hours away from home but I sure as hell will. Im going over the manual again looking at things like exposure lock etc.

If you are going to test with the standard SD card, put it on small images. I would be interested in getting a 2gb SD card and just shooting it off.

By the way whats the resulting colour space of the stills. I mean if the 3fps doesnt work. Then with the 60 version couldnt you snap of at this rate for some incredible full frame slo mo? My quick calculation tells me this would be pretty uncompressed at about 35mbs per second at 60.

Dunno, have been thinking that these still cam options have to have some use.

Couldnt do a good shot test as its raining, but by god I think it works. Have I discovered something?

EDIT: Damn cant do a proper test too much rain. More tomorrow.

Ncje, I'm afraid you got it wrong - 60 is the total miximum number of stills that can be taken in this mode, so the fastest is 4.1fps (in my PAL version).

I reread that now.. 60 frames is max, but not sure what youre referring to with the other number. The ntsc manual says at slow setting 3 fps or fast 5fps. I havent had the time to actually run the test yet, but wonder if a quick repress wouldnt lose to much time to tie up the frames.

For the record you would get about 1/2 a second of footage from each 20 seconds shot at 3fps. so you need to be working the camera hard even if it did work.
