NLE to support DVCPRO 1080 24p

Hello.
Im currently working on developing a portfolio project that will be photographed in 1080 24p DVCPROHD.
The NLE I will be using is Adobe Premiere 2.0 running on a Pentium4 2.67GHz with 1Gb of RAM and a ATI all-in-wonder 9600PRO video card. This is a system I have been using to edit 480 DV footage and I am wondering if it will be able to handle the HD workload of online cutting and CC. I haven't done any tests yet and was wondering before I even start if this system would be up for the challenge? If no, what kind of upgrades would I be looking into?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Liam

Maybe. But first, Premiere Pro doesn't have any support for HVX DVCPRO-HD or MXF files, so you'd need an additional application, preferably RayLight. Then there's the issue of processor speed; you might or might not be able to edit in real time in 1080/24p.

If you're upgrading, a Core 2 Duo processor would be a great place to start.

EDIUS, Vegas, and Premiere Pro can all work with the footage in its native form, but for Vegas and Premiere Pro you'll need Raylight.

Avid doesn't support 1080/24p *as* 24p, it only allows editing it on a 60i timeline.

FCP works, but it forces you to convert the files to Quicktimes. None of the PC editors requires that anymore, thanks to EDIUS and RayLight. In EDIUS, Avid, or a RayLight-equipped Premiere Pro or Vegas, you can just drag the MXF files right to the timeline or edit straight off the card.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Raylight you are editing with an intermediate codec, so while you can use MXF files in your project, you aren't editing with DVCProHD.

Raylight is pure DVCPROHD, except of course when you are using it with DVCPRO50 and DV.

I believe the 2.02 version of raylight allows you to now drop the mxf's straight to the timeline. It came out for vegas recently, and they have already made improvements to it, since then. It was supposed to be coming for pp2 as well. I don't know if it has yet, or not. But, from what Barry was saying, it sounds like it has arrived for pp2 now, as well.

Axio's phenomenal, and if one can justify the purchase price of the board set I think it's probably the most integrated P2 solution available.

Only problem is for laptop users; you can't use a board set in a laptop. But for them, there's always RayLight.

Raylight PremierePro Plugin

Raylight PremierePro Plugin

I tried the Raylight PremierePro Plugin. It makes working with the mxf in PremierePro 2.0 by drag and drop with ease. Works great in Premiere. Saving conversion time.

It would of make my workflow perfect ,if it only worked with AfterEffects and the other Adobe applications. Since I mostly do my editing more heavily in AfterEffects , I still have to do alot of conversion from mxf to AVI2.

I am waiting patiently on the next great mxf plugin that will make the Adobe Production Suite compatible with mxf files.

I think it will eventually surface , but not before I spend a fortune on small fixes.

I second that,
raylight would make a hell of money if they would make .mxf available for programes like After Effects too...i am still looking for a solution here, and i doubt that Adobe will implement native .mxf in the upcoming CS 3..!?!

Anyone with a good connection to raylight to find out if they are working on an update to make mxf run natively in AE??

Have you tried this
Set Raylight to make self-contained AVI
Drop MXF into Raymaker (fast- takes about as long as a file copy)
Drop AVI into After Effects.

Tried the self-contained AVI too

Tried the self-contained AVI too

I have tried the standalone avi conversion. It is fast. A little faster than the DVCProHd converter by Serious Magic/ Adobe.

AVI file, works in Aftereffects. This is still a conversion process which is not quite a speed bump, but more of a tedium.

The next best thing is to create some sort of program like a hybrid P2Genie and Raylight combo.

With this program all I have to do is plugin my P2 card and the P2Genie part will automatically detect the card and and the Raylight part will automatically convert it to my favorite format and store it directly onto my desired disk drive.

This program should also detect the FS-100 also.

Well it doesn't exist so I'll just dream on.

I think Raylight will already do 90% of that. It has a selectable output folder feature, so you drag the CONTENTS folder of the P2 card into RayMaker, then it puts the self-contained AVI's in a folder of your choice on the hard drive. See the RayMaker options panel. Since you are probably not editing MXF directly off the card, this takes the place of drag and drop to the hard drive and it's just as fast.

Raylights great! Perhaps you guys could integrate an automated process of recognizing an MXF file and have it converted into a folder I designate. So I don't have to drag and drop, but just plug and edit.

Yes I am lazy. Asking for another 10% out of Raylight.

Please just make a plug-in for AfterEffects and the other Adobe Products (Encore DVD and Audition).
I have know idea what other developers are brewing, but Raylight is the only one so far that has brought something to Premiere that is worthed.
