EIGHTEEN SECONDS by Jack, Zac and Mac

Simply brilliant.

Simply brilliant.

Great work guys. Mac, your use of light truly shows just how skilled of a shooter you are. It's films like this that really raises the bar of independent film. Bravo!

Nice shots there, Jack.
Thanks.
I can't take credit though.
They were all taken by Zac's brother Benny (who's in S I M I L O) and another guy on the team Roberto, or Eric Paulsen (texture on DVXuser).

And in case people are wondering where the roof night scene was or the desert scene ... to reiterate, the short was shot around two other projects, a Spanish Music Video and a spec Car commercial.

So when do we get to see those? Soon I hope.

Hmm. On the one hand, I appreciated the sweet simplicity of this film. I feel that there absolutely is a story, and a great mood, and it's well paced for the most part. I would be really hesitant to put 90 seconds more into it, but that's your call. Obviously it's really well shot, nice sound design, all that.

Unfortunately, a lot of that vanishes in a big puff of smoke the second you fall victim to being predictable (which is usually just another word for "boring"). From the moment he steps into the street, I started thinking to myself, "for the love of god, please, don't let him get hit by a car." Unfortunately, this wasn't because I loved the character so much, but because I knew I would lose most of my respect for the film if it happened. And bam, there it is, almost right to the second in my little internal countdown. I don't know if I've ever felt a cliché derail a film quite as badly as this. And that's a huge shame, because otherwise you've got a lot going on here. I love this idea, that they share a soul, or something. I like the almost Jekyll/Hyde battle they seem to have for control of their own impulses. But then he dies in a car crash, because he's a ****ing moron who's never seen a movie where OF COURSE you die in a car crash if you hang out in the intersection... even though I've never seen a car going that fast in Manhattan, and no one seems to notice it. Sigh.

Kudos as usual on the technical fronts. A well-assembled film. But by now that's old hat. The handling of this story feels like a step backwards.

Hi all!
The car crash could be a cliché. True. But the point in the story is not the car crash, but she fainting with him and both laying on the ground dead but looking to each other. That is the moment they finally have together. That is where the whole 6 minutes of film are taking us.

I didn't know she died also! I thought maybe she fainted or something. You guys are hardcore, killing off both your cast!

I showed some friends of mine and they enjoyed it as well.

I got your point, Mac, but it doesn't change mine: you could have done anything but a pedestrian getting slammed in a car accident, and your movie would be better for it.

Hey, finally got some time to check out this thread. Glad to see the positive reaction.

I read a little bit of bickering about the Erik name thing... Hehehe.

I played the role that Mark Harris originally auditioned for... Or should I spell that, R-O-L-L? Yea, hehe, aside from helping the production team out with a few other things, I was the guy who drove the car over Jack... Mark would have got the role if it weren't for his insistence on backing up and rolling over Jack back and forth.

Soooo, yea, not only is the central character named Erik, but the guy who ran him over? Erik too! We got it covered, hehe! :)

Cheers!

lol. I can see it now.

"OK, who wants to play the role of the car driver who runs over Jack?"

Everyone yells... "Me! Me! ME!!!"

"We can only have one. Let's draw straws."

They each draw a straw.

Mark Harris gets the short straw.

Timur: "Hey, I'll PAY you guys to play the role."

Zac: "Just keep in mind that you don't REALLY get to hit him. It will be a VFX done in post."

Dissapointed, everyone walks away... :)
