Orphic Film presents: FADE

And a new poster has been added to the front page. It contains pictures from the actual movie. The rest remains as a secret....

Nice poster. That top image really grabs my attention. It looks serene, beautiful.. but at the same time, violent.

'Fade' is completely finished and the upload towards the server is running at this very moment.

Encoding to H264 has been a weird adventure, but after a lot of testing with Quicktime Pro 7 I managed to create 39,8 MB videofile with enough resolution, fps, good sound and quality.

I think this is one of the needles in the haystack. I have lots of questions
but, they don't necessarily need answers. I think I need more viewings on
this one. Excellent work here!

this is certianly one of my new favorites! This was great, abstract, ephemeral, and leaves alot to the imagination.

GREAT. Top 5

Thanks guys for your comments so far! I'm busy downloading all the films at the moment, while it's almost night here in Holland.

Hey guys. I think I'm pretty stupid on this one. I get that it's abstract, and for such a thing it's totally "whoa that's cool". I'm not really getting a narrative out of it, so on that front I'll say it looks great.

How'd you pull off the all white and sheets thing?

Hi Kholi, there is definitely a story in Fade, the dialog part of the film is the key (but also something as the sound effect on the girl her voice supports it). The sentences are short, but they tell you all about it. I won't explain it to you, as a 15 year old son of our neighbours watched it totalu unexpected and without any pre-information. Afterwards he gave his idea of the story and that was very different from the one we used during filming. And his idea was very valid, and that's great and makes me seal my lips.

We filmed at a theatre stage, using 22 sheets (88 meters in total) that were attached to the theatre installation on the stage floor. Check-out the behind the scenes pictures on page 2 of this forum thread, or the Fade section on our website.

This was very interesting. really good job at making the dream world seem very vast. The final scene in the dark is great. I have no idea what this movie was about, maybe it's a European thing. but it definitely looks cool, and good audio quality too.

Hi Shawneous,
European 'things' don't exist, it's a movie like all other movies. With a beginning, a middle and an ending. And a solid script. It's just that's like a puzzle, all the answers are there, you have to 'feel think' them.

I just got done watching your film after a string of not so good ones, and I must say, bravo. I don't recall seeing it covered much but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually a fan of such "art house" pieces but you managed to hook me with this one. One thing I must mention, when using bedsheets in such a way, make sure to wash them first to get rid of the creases. It looks very much like you bought a bunch of white sheets, opened them up, and put them right on the line. I only point it out because we used hanging bedsheets in ours and made the same mistake.

I love the final shot of him standing in the darkness. Many kudos to all involved.

Added: synopsis for Fade

Added: synopsis for Fade

Hi everybody,
To give viewers a kind of direction before (re)watching Fade, the following synopsis will be added to the first message of this thread:

"He who seeks inner peace, is bound first to confront himself."

I enjoyed this film, the acting was brilliant, simple yet so understandable. I enjoyed the music too, nice work.
Thank you.

Just finished watching this for the second time. I liked the subject matter and approach towards making this film. It's well executed and leaves us thinking at the end.

My favorite part is when the guy is running at the end yelling, "Where!" Great use of editing there!

Hey VLP, thanks for your words. We didn't use bed sheets, I bought 88 meters of sheet normally used by people for making their own clothes, that was cut in 22 pieces of 4 meters. If we had to iron them at the filming location (theatre), we would have been busy half a day and we only had about 8 hours to hang them up, set the light, film all shots and breaking up the set before leaving for home.

Really liked you film good work.

Like the visual style and soundtrack
I can never tell if non-english speaking people act well:)

edit: as I understand it(from the reply below) the acting was Stellar:)
