Should we record PN or P for 23.98 ?

I am a bit confused about 24PN , 24P and 24PA
and would appreciate someone to tell me the difference.

Would all this formats record 1080 and 720 lines?
Which of them are supported by Firestore, P2 and Citidisk?
Will them result in a different pull-down and not all three would enable good capture in FCP and Avid?

Thanks a lot for your enlightment.

24pN is for recording 720 on the P2 cards. That's it. It has no applicability in any other circumstances.

24pA is used in 1080 or 480 modes; if your editing program supports "advanced pulldown removal" then you should always use 24pA.

pN is something only for 720 mode where, rather than recording the progressive frames to a 60p or 60i signal and requiring pull down or removal of redundant frames, only a pure 24 or 30 progressive frames are recorded. This not only saves on memory card space (give you 2.5 times more record time in 24pN) but also makes editing a bit less of a hastle in many situations.

Consider PN (native) like a film camera. The HVX is actually recording 24 full frames per second just as a film stock would roll through a film camera at 24fps.

Except for the FS-100, too.

Even with the new software upgrade, you still DO NOT use 24PN mode to record to the FS-100. ONLY on the P2 card as Barry said.

Thanks a lot Barry, David, Avenger, Ben, Ozduc, Calfx.

So 1080/24 progressive only PA (if the editing suportts it).
Would Citidiks and Firestore record this progressive format?

I greatly appreciated the clarification.

You can record 1080i/24p or 1080i/24pa, both from 1080/60i. 1080i/24p has a 2:3 pulldown "which can cause a drop in picture quality", 1080i/24pa use a 2:3:3:2 pulldown "leading to a reduction in image quality loss". Both can be record on firestore, never use citidisks, but i think yes to. Sorry my english.

Cal Rabelo. Brasil.
HVX200.

But..... While recording in 1080/24pA can the firestore do the pulldown automatically as it records? I know this feature wasn't previously available but can it do it with the new update?
