Envision & RebeccaD Present "Where Silence Falls"

Norm, I have to ask, are you able to be mobile in your editing suite? I know myself, I have a pretty beefy laptop and use external HDD's so I can pretty much edit and tweak whereever I am.

I possibly could if I was on Mac, but I don't even have my own laptop ... it's a company laptop, and a pretty weak PC at that. They also have it disabled, so I can't install programs etc. to even attempt to do any work on it. I'll have to bite the bullet soon & get a Mac or PC laptop with some serious juice behind it.

If I do it, possibly Mac, as I could then take my time to begin learning FCP, as well as have a secondary/powerful system that can handle it's own on travel, etc ... just not sure how well I could make it all mesh with my PC network.

Why not get a sweet PC laptop Norm? So you can stick with what you know. I currently have an HP Pavilion zd8000 P4 3.2 Ghz. and 1GB of Ram, and I run Avid Xpress HD without a hitch on it. Now, if I try to run, Avid, AE, and Photoshop at the same time it lags... but, I never have to. I do need to add another gig of RAM in here though.

mhmm... though it's not THAT expensive... I scored mine for around $1,800 bucks, fully loaded... I am sure they've gone down in price even since that :)

Rebecca... I got your message, but I was out and a boot and didn't get a chance to call you back. Let's touch base tomorrow and see what we can do!

I basically jumped the gun and just started something for you guys just so I would have a heads start. Looks like most of it worked. and.. of course.. some are back to the drarrring boards.

cheers!

Thanks Justin. I am at work today, but have some breaks, so I will call you from my cell. You rock~! :2vrolijk_08:

Justin, thanks again for all your hard work. We are looking forward to hearing your results! Cool to hear a voice attached to the face!

Alrighty then!! Finally got home from Miami this evening, and beyond glad to be back. After giving gifts & stuff to the family from the trip, I'm sneeking out to the office to hear the second draft of Justin's score, as well as downloading the original h.264 clip he scored it to so I can have a version on this end to start working any needed sound/ADR to.

Shawn, I'll go through the WAV audio files & match them up to the clips we're using on this end to see if there's any issues with just the camera audio only ... any work I can save myself on ADR, I'll look forward to! :)

Things are looking great over here. Really enjoyed the BTS vid.

Did you use the M2 for the steadicam shots? If so, did you use a remote FF? Sorry if I missed this question in the 40 some pages of posts.

Can't wait to see it.

Thanks for the Q's, Justin, I'll have to update the Q&A section soon on the front page.

Yep, we used Ryan Walters' M2 & Cannon lenses on the steadicam shots, which proved to be a challenge as Ryan mentions several pages back (he had to hack apart the manual follow focus he had to get it to work with Dan's remote FF (microwave transmitter, FAST response time, etc.).

I'm hoping to get some grabs up soon, though they'll be low rez due to my having to manipulate them from my PC & everything has been done on Mac so far.

Some good news/bad news ...

GOOD NEWS
MANY of the sound clips are vastly different with the compact flash/WAV files (where Shawn recorded directly to a recorder) than they were with the RF transmitted signals to the camera ... different, as in better. The number of blown clips (spiked sound levels) isn't anywhere near where I was afraid it was, so ADR will be quicker than what I was dreading.

BAD NEWS
Everyone knows that when you slate a film, the clapper is to be able to sync the sound with the picture in post, right? Well, the crappy thing is that I'm now trying to sync the sound with the final locked edit, which means there IS no clapper to sync to. So unfortunately that's now taking for EVER to try and accurately place the sound where it should go, etc.

Otherwise, things are coming along nicely. Spoke with Justin yesterday too for some adjustments to the score, and it is REALLY coming along ... he's got some powerful things in there that you'll be looking forward to hearing!

Hey thanks! Yeah, ADR is no fun at all ... and I honestly think it'll be TOUGH to perfectly match the timing/breathing/emotional intensity you had in that final take ....

So since I can see a MASSIVE percentage of our time being spent with just that one take alone, I'm trying the best I can to make sure there's not too much else ... otherwise your agent, manager, and attorney (oh yes, let's not forget your publicist) will be all over me for OT wages, etc. :)

AbsoLUTEly! Right after I finish closing this transaction of a bridge I'm selling ....

Back to reality for a second ...

I took a nice break today to check out a car show with Rebecca's husband, David, today (my favorite was the Bentley Continental Flying Spur - someday I WILL own this car!) and have pretty much been hounding on the sound since. What a stinkin' daunting task it is having not done this at the get go by sync'ing the audio with the clips. It's also unfortunate because I'm not sure which angle/shot I'm looking at within the scene (i.e. Scene 12A Take 3, or Scene 12C Take 2), so this has got to be the most complex puzzle I've ever put together in my life. I'll get it done, no doubt about it, but I don't think I can ever not have complete editing control again ... perhaps I'm a control freak. Or at least next time I'll have it all out of my hands, so I'm not messing with the sound stuff as well.
