What would you recommend for a monitor?

I'm contemplating taking the pluge and buying a MacPro. Obviously, I will use
this for video/film editing (and some graphics). I plan on having a graphics card
that can support a monitor as well as a TV feed.

Two questions. What monitor do you favor for the Mac (CRT, LCD etc.) and what would you use for the external monitor?

For now, I'm not doing HD (possibly in the near future) and will do both 4:3 and
widescreen.

Thanks

Mark

I don't know of any Mac video cards for the Pro that supports having a TV feed?

Are you talking about inputting television?

You might want to explain.

The available Mac cards include two dvi ports, usually one dual and one single.

That's about it.

On my audio PC, I have a Matrox Millennium P750 Triple Head Graphics Card.
This allows me to use dual LCD monitors for my PC and a line out to a 13" TV.

So now, when I do any video editing , not only do I see the video in my NLE program
(Vegas) but I see the final result on the TV.

If you are going to be doing DV then FCP will output to a client monitor via FW. Now when you get into HD that is a different story. What I am about to venture into (when funding becomes available) is the Matrox MXO...this allows you to take the feed of one of your DVI ports and view it on a broadcast monitor. As far what would i use for the MAC to edit on....Apple Cinema display hands down...and for your external client monitor...CRTs are the way to go.

I use a standard LCD 1440x900 as primary, and got a Viewsonic HD which can input just about anything, so I can use it as VGA, or connect my HVX via component to view the HD from the camera.

Got my Mac Pro and stuff from Allan at Omega Broadcast in Austin. Those were his recommendations for my situation and its worked out for me.

The available video cards for the MacPro do not include these options. In fact, only two companies make video cards for the Mac - ATI and nvidia.

MD slammer,

I think what you are talking about is having the ability to send a TV signal to a broadcast monitor or TV in addition to your computers display(s) right? The video card that comes with your mac pro will drive the display for your computer. Then you need an additional PCIe card to send a roadcast signal from final cut pro, to a broadcast monitor. For cards look at offerings from AJA or Blackmagic. I have an Aja Kona LHe that sends a signal to a Panasonic BT-LH1700W. Also have a standard def Sony broadcast monitor for SD color correnction. I've been very happy with this setup.

Eizo S2411w prob the best monitor out there 24inch, 1920x1200, 1:3000 contrast ratio and 6 ms response time. I have the S2410w and the color is breath taking.
