DV Rack as CC monitor

Ya I know DVrack is no editing program, however I was wondering if there was a way to stream off a Final cut timeline out the g5 via firewire (or something) into my laptop and watch the content in DV rack using the calibrated broadcast monitor? If so it can get me by for CC until I can afford a pr HD monitor. Any suggestions?

In FCP, you'd have to do whatever you normally do to write to a tape deck or camera. DV Rack would take that data stream and output it on its Field Monitor, run it through the Vector Scope etc.

I'm afraid this is not working. Could be user error. I hooked up a fire wire cable from my g5 to laptop, opened final cut, opened dvrack and final cut is reading that there is no deck so it doesn't do the tape out function? any other suggestions

Try setting FCP so that it's a non-controllable device? Maybe that'll help FCP, but I don't know if DV Rack is going to connect to it.

hmmmm tried that Barry but no luck. . I know I saw a thread a while back about this, I just can't seem to find it. If there was a way to get fcp to read that my laptop was a device, then we're talking. Any other idea's or should I put this one to rest???

I don't think it's gonna work; I seem to remember trying this years ago when the original DV Rack came out, going from computer-to-computer, but it didn't work due to the NLE computer not being recognized as an AV/C device. But I'm not gonna tell you not to try! It might work, or something might have changed in the last few years.
