My HVX200 Direct Capture Tests on MBP, PB, & PMG5

Isn't the 720pN capture problem an FCP limitation, and not a camera limitation? It was my understanding that apple just hadn't got to supporting 24pN in DVCPRO.

Anyway, also, re: bandwidth, none of this stuff exceeds 12.5MB per second, so _any_ firewire connection will do it, no problem.

I believe it's a camera limitation.

One of the reasons the FS won't capture 24PN

FCP does capture 720pN. But not with the camera in PN mode. David is correct, in 24pN mode no video data comes out the firewire port.

However, FCP is intelligent enough to sense which are valid frames, and which are duplicate frames, and it discards the duplicates and only stores the valid frames. The result is a recording identical to what 24pN would have produced.

EDIUS Broadcast does the same thing.

I hope Focus updates the FireStore with the same capability, that would be a phenomenal increase in storage space.

External Harddisk With Power

External Harddisk With Power

Hi there,

I was wondering i work with the HVX200 with a Steadycam where i am able to set up my powerbook directly for capturing. Now is my question, all these external drives tested, where they powered by an adapter or the internal firewire or usb2 power?
When they are powered i don't see a way to walk around in a room comfortably turning around with a powercable connected to my pack.
SO are there drive possibilities using an small inch drive powered trough the bus of the laptop?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

I would look at a Focus Enhancements FS-100 instead, I don't see running around with a HVX200 on a Steadycam, a laptop, and an external drive as being very practical.

FirmTek makes a couple of PCCard / ExpressCard34 devices supporting up to 2 eSata (read: 3GB/sec SATAII) drives at once!

This is from DV Shop in Toronto. They usually know a good product when they see one. I've seem them listed on U.S. retailer sites too.
